Default Safe to drink the water?

OK, this question has probably been asked a million times before, but here goes..............
Is it safe to drink the water on the ship (Not bottled) and safe to use the ice or have iced drinks? Someone just told me last night that we should NEVER drink anything that isn't bottled...

We leave in 12 days on our FIRST cruise and I'm a little concerned. what about in Cozumel and Grand Cayman if we eat at any restaurants....Is it ok there too or not? I would guess the ice and water are filtered on the ship but not so sure about the restaurants in Cozumel and GC.

Thanks

I have been on six cruises and only drink the water (not soft drinks) - never had one problem with it whatsoever.

The water on a cruise ship is EXTREMELY safe and probably better than any public water source. (BTW that's where almost all bottled water comes from)

The cruise ship water is also of better quality than almost any bottled water. It is created by either reverse osmosis filtering or distillation.

Buying bottled water on the ship, while the cruise lines would love you to spend the money, is a total waste of money.

In regard to a cruise ship: "Someone" was wrong.

Take care,
Mike

While ashore one should be careful with ice in drinks or local water fountains etc. The ship has excellent water but no one can assure safety of the water ashore.

I would ask for drinks kept inthe can/bottle or buy drinks locally in a store.

No, not a good idea to drink the water in Mexico, unless you plan on spending the rest of the cruise suffering the effects of Montezuma's Revenge, otherwise known as dysentery (I think I spelled it right).

The water on the ship is good, and it is better than Evian or other "spring" water.

Default DRINK THE WATER

ON THE SHIP!
The water is great some of the purest by distill or RO.
OFF THE SHIP !
Drink bottled water, dont eat the ice or drink beverages cooled with ice, dont drink the water. You may not get back to the ship before the revenge can set in . 37 yrs in public health, i have made the mistake once or twice an it aint nice, can mess up everything.SO please watch what you eat and drink.

To me at least, some of the best tasting water is that melted ice from the bucket in the stateroom. That's what I drink and after 7 cruises...NO problems.

Like the previous posters mentioned, the water on the ship is extremely safe. I would however, be careful with water/ice consumed in port, especially Mexico. The locals are used to it, it takes awhile to build up immunity to specific bacteria. As a retired mainline pipelayer, I can assure you none of you'd drink city water if you saw the pipes it came outta. In old neighborhoods, the service lines to the houses are lead. Many of the mainlines are asbestos. The tuberculation inside the cast iron pipes is absolutely gross. Noooooo, I'll take my crystal clear well water ANYTIME over city water ANYWHERE.

CORONA or TECATE!

It's all what your body is used to. Folks used to Cleveland city water could probably drink from a septic tank w/o knowing the difference. It wouldn't surprise me if a Mexican national got sick drinking Cleveland water cuz their body's not used to the same specific bacteria.

In Grand Cayman you are fine. They have better standards there.

Not sure about Cozumel, I refused to let me BF eat or drink anything when we were in Mexico

We had frozen drinks at Carlos & Charlies in Coz with no ill effects. I think I will still stick with bottled water in port. As far as the ship is concerned the water is probobley better purified than most cities. It just depends on how sensative your SYSTEM is to a change in bacteria. When in doubt be safe. Don't want to spend your cruise on the pot .
