Default Kids Dress Code for Dinner (Ecstasy)

We are traveling on the Ecstasy and are wondering what the kids (13, 9 and 7) need to wear to dinner both on "formal" night and regular night. What is appropriate. Can they wear tennis shoes? What about shorts?

Shorts are not allowed at dinner on any night, besides it gets cold in the dining room so if they are young men, docker type slacks would be just fine. Our 3 sons always wore their suits on formal nights because they liked getting their picture taken with the Captain. Then dockers and and a shirt; either button down or polo type for the other nights. I'd say if the tenis shoes are black, they should be fine.

We had our 14y/o son and 13y/o niece on our Ecstasy cruise last spring. Niece wore sundresses or capris with cute summer tops; son wore khaki dockers (school uniform pants) with collared polo shirts each night. He also wore tennis shoes each night but he's at that age where his tennis shoes have to be $80-100 a pair and have cool patterns (kept very clean). He had a grey camo pattern and solid black. For formal night the best I could do was to get him to choose his nicest polo shirt and pants and the new camo shoes. My niece on the other hand had bought 3 party dresses before the cruise and had trouble deciding which one to wear. She went with the solid black dress mid calf length.

There were ppl at the next table on formal night that had jeans on and basic sundresses tied at the neck, etc. not as dressy as i had heard it would be. Ecstasy is more lax than other ships...so I've heard. But no shorts!

We have been on two cruises, different ships, different parts of the world and different times of the year.

Ds wore khaki dress pants with a dark colored polo shirt. Dd wore a sundress with a light sweater over her shoulders. Both wore dress shoes, no flip flops.
