Default sunny liston tours

I booked a St. Thomas tour a couple months ago for our cruise next month. Sunny said he would be outside the ship with a sign AT 11AM. But I starting to get nervous because we had to pay for it with a credit card in advance and truely if he wanted to he could just not show up and I would be out $50. Has anybody pre-paid for their tour and everything been ok? I need some reassurance here please. thanks

I've read about his tours here and elsewhere before. I think it will be just fine.
If you need to learn more about him and others in the area, visit the message board at http://www.vinow.com

Its all locals there.

I make the assumption that it is the shop, tour, beach excursion.

I took a sonny liston tour back in October 2006. It was nice. The driver was pleasant and knowledgeable. This was before he had his website set up to have you pay in advance so I paid at the end of the tour. If you are using a credit card and he is not there at the gate (he will be there) you can just dispute the payment on your credit card b/c you did not get the services you paid for. It is the best way to pay actually.

Now with that said, in October 2006 he was charging $40. After I did the tour, I found out that there were other drivers at the gate as capable as the Sonny Liston organization that charged anywhere from $25-30 for the same basic shop, tour, beach excursion. If he is charging $50 and asking for payment upfront, it may be so that by the time you get to the port and find out that his organization is almost twice as expensive as everyone else, you would have already paid and not have an option.

I am not saying he is doing that but I do know that at $40 he was a bit more expensive than everyone else and now at $50 he is even more so.

In St. Thomas it is really not necessary to prepay anyone because there are drivings at the gate of the pier that all offer the same thing and are willing to negotiate their price or customize their tour/service.

we paid $25 per person. I thought it was a great price for 4 hours. I emailed him but he hasn't emailed me back...probably out on tours!

$25 per person is a decent rate.

I will have to look into this more for our trip there.

IB, when you used him was it with a large or small group?
I ask b/c I have several "hot spots" to visit around the island and if the tour happens to be nearby one of my hot spots I wonder if he will indulge the short stop.

Thanks

I group I was in was approximately 10-12 people. The van was not quite full.

$25 per person is about the best you will get and I know Sonny Liston is dependable. Email the company, perhaps your hotspots are already stops in the tour.

OK, thx IB.

I doubt my hot spots are on his tour, tho I know he would agree they are the hot spots for the locals.

Bolongo Bay ... to Iggies Beach Bar & Grill St Thomas . The pool bar at Bolongo Bay is WiFi

Sopchoppy’s – now called Island Time Pub Located at the American Yacht Harbor, Red Hook; St. Thomas

Hard Rock Cafe Located at International Plaza, Charlotte Amalie

Duffy's Love Shack Located at Red Hook Plaza, in the parking lot across the street from the American Yacht Harbor Marina in St. Thomas

K-Mart on St. Thomas. There's one at Havensight and another mid-island. Their price on Cruzan is $2.89 a bottle!

O.K. I am not familiar with any of those spot. However, I think if those are the places that you really want to go, you may want to hire your won personal driver because I doubt if the driver will make those pitstops and delay the entire group just for one person. He may be willing to stop at one of those places very briefly but that is a big maybe. You can always email or call him and ask.

Good luck.
