Default Aft Cabins-Strong Breeze

Hey All, DW and I are gonna be in an Aft Cabin on the Valor in a couple of months and I heard that if one opens the Cabin Door with the Balcony door open, a tremendous breeze occurs. Is this true?

My wife and I sailed on the Glory in Aug 2005 and our cabin 6489 was an aft cabin. My experience was just the oposite of your question, while the ship was sailing all we experienced was an absense of a breeze or wind. Actually it was rather hot. Regardless, it was the best cabin that we have ever had. I'm sure that you will enjoy the experience as well. Have a great cruise

Thanks for your reply. After rereading my original post, I don't believe I asked my question correctly.
What I meant is "when you are in an Aft Cabin, or any cabin for that matter, and have both the Balcony door open with the Cabin door open, is there a strong breeze that blows through your Cabin? I thought I read that somewhere.

OK, I understand your question. While the ship is sailing an air vacuum occurs on the rear of the ship. Air is constanly blowing inside of the cabin, when you open the balcony door air inside will blow out, but not a strong breeze. But if you open the cabin door and the balcony door while the ship is sailing you will experience a strong breez. I can't recall if we ever had both doors open while the ship was sailing.

FYI: I would think that a aft cabin would have no breeze at all except what blows out from the room. Think about NASCAR for a second the reason the cars like to be so close is that the first car displaces the air around (to the sides and the other cars follow behind in the "vacuum" saving fuel. On the ship any breeze that is caused by ships motion would cause wind on the side but a rear cabin should be calm

So, It's not specific to Aft cabins, That's good to know. Thanks so much for the info.

The way the air conditioning works on a ship is very similar to a large building. The goal is to pressurize the whole facility be it a ship or a building. By doing this you keep the heat, or cold from entering the facility. When you open an exterior door with a pressurized building the heat and or cold does not rush in. The pressure in the cabins is higher than outside. Since the hall areas are a larger area the pressure is even greater. If you have your cabin door open at the same time you have your balcony door open the air will be of greater strength than if you just have your balcony door open. It really has nothing to do with the shiip moving or not . I know this may not make much sense, but it is kind of a technical explanation of this effect. I hope I have made this as clear as MUD

All I know is that both doors open causes room decorations to re arrange themselves, which is why I take duct tape.
