Lost item on Carnival Miracle still not returned by Carnival
 
I came back on the Carnival Miracle on Sat July 14, 2007. In the rush of packing for self disembarkation, I forgot to check the nighttable cabinet in the corner behind the curtain. I had placed some paperbacks that I bought just before the cruise. I was also makiing a dance costume and had the makings of the top that I was planning to work on during the cruise including fabric, base top, beads, pins, etc.

Realized after I got home that I didn't have my project. My husband called Carnival, gave Miracle name, room number, exactly where I left them, description of item. To date, have still not heard back. Very disappointed in Carnival. Cannot start on rest of costume since missing piece is crucial to whole costume. You would think that ship like Carival Miracle which prides itself on customer satisfaction would be able to respond better. This is my second cruise on Carnival (I have cruised on a lot of other cruise lines) and I am beginning to have second thoughts on cruising Carnival again.

Disappointed.

It is unfortunate you had this bad experience with Carnival.

Surely they know who your cabin steward was and could ask them if they recall the item when they cleaned the room after debark.

Being stuck on the ship as they are I would not be surprised the cabin stewards kept or gave the books to each other, but the costume material they should have had the sense to turn it in.

Not to be mean but I would say that the chances of seeing your paperback books are slim. Many people leave books and it is standard procedure to dispose or cycle those into the crew library.

Your other items "may" be returned but on almost any cruise line, items other than "monetarily valuable" hard items such as jewelry, watches, or documents are rarely returned.

Do your best to make them aware of what you left (which you have done) and keep following up but don't become too optimistic. I also wouldn't put a major red mark on Carnival, the cabin steward or the ship for not keeping or returning it. Most cruise lines could and would easily dispose of these items. :(

It's a hard thing to lose but one person's treasure is easily another's leftover trash.

It is also your responsibility for removing everything from your cabin before you leave.

Keep calling and following up. Carnival probably get thousands of request a week for missing things. Carla ;)

Also keep in mind that the next cruise is boarding almost as soon as the last person on your cruise steps off. Your cabin steward only has 2 or 3 hours to clean all of his cabins and have them ready for the next group of anxious cruisers who are wanting into their cabins.

My guess is anything left in the cabin not of obvious value goes into the trash during the rush. I have heard of valuables being returned so that’s a credit to the character of the room stewards. Usable, but not valuable items. such as books probably get kept by the stewards.

Just wonderin Webdancer, what is YOUR responsibility in this situation? I believe I woulda called them again or contacted corporate offices listed on their website or goto their quotron symbol CCL and look under company profile. So far your hubby's called Carnival, you're expectin them jump, and all I see is your post here :-? . We self-assist debark all the time but it's always been OUR decision. Also, we've never been rushed cuz we knew when we were debarking before we embarked. And, I've never seen furniture behind the drapes in Cat 4, 6, or 8 cabins. But hey, if you it's back there maybe the stewart missed it same as you. Cuz if you think you were rushed, try crewin a ship on turn-around day and let us know who's rushed, crew or passengers? :wink:
