I couldn't be happier ... we are finally getting a larger ship in JAX.

That is good news! We have sailed on the Celebration and she is a wonderful ship, but bigger would be better. Wonder if a new ship will now be destined for Mobile to replace the Holiday?

I agree, Dixie. I thought the Celebration was wonderful overall. The only room for improvement I could think of was the layout of the Lido - very cramped and the layout only made it seem worse. Other than that, it was a great value and a good cruise.

Hope good news follows for you and the other Mobile cruisers as well.

that is excellent. I thought that the Celebration was the only ship small enough to sail under the bridge.

Good news.

This next cruise will be our first from Jaxport. I can't wait to check it out and sail under the bridge.

JAXPORT started with the Celebrity Zenith doing 14-day voyages for about a year I think it was. Then the Miracle arrived for several cruises when she was brand new. I have a shot of her passing under the Dames Point bridge and it was soooo close. I'm not sure how much clearance the Fascination would have today but they plan to change her superstructure to make sure she can fit under the bridge regardless of the tide.

The Fascination will have two great 5-day options - Key West and Nassau or Half Moon Cay and Nassau. The 4-day wil still include Freeport & Nassau, just like the Celebration.

Very exciting news for our city and those in the SE market.

cool! I'll be sailing Fascination out of Miami in June. I wonder which ship will go to Miami to replace her! I like this part - it willbe cool to have a flat screen tv this time around!

"The 70,000-ton Carnival Fascination underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation last year, the first phase in the line’s extensive “Evolutions of Fun? shipboard enhancement initiative for its eight “Fantasy-class? vessels. The refurbishment included a new nine-hole miniature golf course, a patisserie, an atrium lobby bar, conference center, and expansive new facilities for children and teens, part of the line’s top-rated “Camp Carnival? and “Club O2? programs, respectively.

In addition to a completely renovated spa, all 1,026 staterooms aboard the Carnival Fascination were upgraded with flat screen TVs, an entirely new décor and completely remodeled bathrooms. Two new lavish production shows, Fiesta Latina and Far From Over: the 80s, were added, as well. "

Oh wow! This is the answer ive been searching for. I was bummed because i live in virginia and the airfare increase for flights to FLA has made it difficult for me to book an inexpensive cruise. I love the Fantasy class ships and now i can get a cheap Southwest flight and book a 5 day cruise and not have to go to Miami! Great!!

Can't wait!!! The Fasination will be a great addition to Jaxport and only 5.5 hours from my home. Rumer is, we should find out today that the Holiday is being replaced by the Triumph in October 2008 and it will only be 2.5 hours from my home, great news for the Port of Mobile. Hopefully we will know by the end of the day.

Yep, Triumph is moving too... there was another thread on here about it. Now if the other lines, who are also continually building, will send some of their older ships to Jacksonville and Mobile, we'll be all set.
