You can bring a cooler for any softdrinks or water or (beer) that you bring on board.

cjslvrv;
We take a collapsable soft sidded one. It does not take much room, and you can pack breakables in it when you return. I use it for soda, beer water to have in our cabin in the evenings. Just very handy when you want a cool drink. I showed ours to our stewerd, and he kept it full of ice all week.
Enjoy

So if you take a cooler on they don't check it for wine bottles, or beer?

They check everything you carry on the ship, they even counted my daughter's soda cans to see if the quantity complied with their regulations. The Room Steward provided my daughter with a small cooler for her room and kept it full of ice.

We always carry 2 12 pks of Pepsi, we don't drink coke, and a case of water. This saves us money during the cruise. Soda and water does not have to be smuggle, you are allow to bring reasonable amounts with you. We carry on to the ship our small cooler without any problems.

the main reason I bring one is because the ice buckets in the room are so darn small - they don't hold enough ice to keep one can of pop cool.

we bring a soft sided cooler with us....works great.

Hi Cruisers,

I also bring a soft sided cooler. I bring zip lock bags with me. If I am taking a shore trip that is several hours and doesn't include a meal I order room service. I do this about an hour before I need to show up for the shore trip. Then I package the sandwiches, cookies, fruit ect and pack up a bag of ice. I actually double bag the ice. That way everything stays cool. And, we have a good lunch that we don't need to worry about. If I'm by myself I take the small one. If I'm with a family group I take the rolling cooler.

I like to cut corners and save money where I can so that I can splurge a little on the fun things. $5 here and $5 there can add up over 7 days I'm sure.

I believe Carnival now limits the amount of soft drinks you can bring onboard, I would leave the cooler at home. I think that will put up a red flag if they see coolers full of coke, etc....

I think its OK to bring a six pack or so, I'd limit the amount that you bring. You can still get all the iced tea and lemonade you want during the day.

We take coolers so we can take them with us to the beach. We usually stop at a grocery store on our way to the beach and get beer, water, soda, etc. We also take some goodies off the ship and some of those items need to be kept cold.

We just use the cooler as one of our carry-ons and pack cameras and things we don't want to pack in them.

Finally someone with a good reason for having a cooler. I never thought about people taking them to the beach. Great idea!!!

How far away is the ice station on the ships? I mean, if my room is way down one end of a hall, would I have far to walk to get a bucket of ice?

Are we allowed to fill our own buckets of ice? If the steward fills it for me, is this something I tip extra for?

Just trying to get it all in my head before we sail..

Default Soft Drinks in Ports

Hi: I'm a newbie here, going on first cruise Jan 19th Freedom. Can you tell me if there is a problem getting soft drinks in cans or bottles in the ports, or is that why it is wise to bring your own on board (plus cost saving). I drink Diet Pepse Caffeine Free ?? Do the fridges in the rooms not work, I hear everyone saying they have to get buckets of ice. We have medications to take that need to be refridgerated and was advised by the TA that a fridge would be in our room. Please advise on these 2 subjects. Thanks. Carol

Hi Carol,
I was about to say I carry on a cooler because my Meds require refrigeration. I have never been on a flight with my meds but I have driven to port and carried them on board. Carnival has a Medical Request Form I fill out and request the fridge with. I fax it in to the office. I keep a copy of the form and the fax transmittal confirmation. If there is no fridge in the room I call down and ask about it (this only happened once and not on Carnival). My meds are very expensive I want them near me at all times. My hubby would call the cruise line and ask about a fridge in the room they would give him a song and dance about the fridge in the medical office. I would call and just ask for the form fill it in and fax it no problem. Plus I like having proof with me even if I don't need it. They have never charged me an extra fee for the fridge. Hope that helps.

1) In most ports you can easily find Pepsi, Coke, Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke.
When you start branching off into all the various billions of US variations for sodas, is where you can start to have trouble finding them.
Like your caffiene free, etc... (Diet Pepsi Max with Ginseng...wth?!?!?)

It is a rather simple thing to bring a 6 or 12 pack on board with you.
(the only people who have problems are the ones bringing CASES of sodas or water onboard.)

2) The Ice buckets in your room are tiny... (might fill up two small glasses with ice. MAYBE)
Definitely not big enough to keep anything bigger than an aspirin bottle cold.

In 3 cruises, I wouldn't call any of the 3 refrigerators we have had cold.
Or even cool.
I always throw one of our drinks in when we board just to check.
Each time after a full day inside, I would barely classify my drink as cool.

Definitely not cold.

I bring this cooler with me as my carry on. I pack my docs, wallet, cameras, IPOD, ect in it and have the other stuff in my checked luggage. This cooler is the right size with a shoulder strap for a carryon. It holds several cans and plenty of ice to make drinks with. The ice bucket in the cabin does not hold much at all. I tip the cabin steward the first day to keep it full of ice for me.

Those mules (my kids) only get to cruise once a year. I go another time without them so I can cut loose a little more. Feb 28th on Grandeur!!

I love that pic w/ the cooler. I personally transport more alcohol than that, but the soda, beer, and cooler...awesome.
And is that an RCI medal around your neck? I got one too in the best legs contest. Too funny.

We do two things. We take a small collapsable cooler (hold 12cans) and we take a normal carry on bag loaded with drinks (water, cokes, water, yahoos) We stock the cooler each night with what we think we will need the next day. On the Legend room 6232 the ice machine was right next door I just went in each night and reloaded the cooler. On the Valor the room attendant actually told us not to go through all that and took everything out of the fridge since we were'nt going to purchase the items anyways, so we had a fridge for our use. He simply reloaded it on the last night. It was just more cost efficent since a single coke is 2.15 each and I think waters were a little higher. For a family of four that saves a little.

You can call them now and request the medical form. Fill it out and fax it in. I never had a problem with the fridge being cold. Only problem I had was one time they give it to us locked. But we asked to unlock it and they did it no problems. If you get a not cold fridge request another. You should not have problems this is a medical need and they shouldn't give you any problems.
