I just got off the phone with Carnival for an update on the Ecstasy. The rep told me they had taken out the Progreso stop, but still have the Cozumel stop scheduled. No way I want to be in Cozumel on Wednesday, so I asked if they were taking cancellation requests for refunds, to which she replied "yes".. I called the Cruise wholesaler to cancel and started getting the run around about how I couldn't get a refund unless Carnival cancelled the entire cruise. Thanks to an experienced poster's link here, I was able to read them Carnival's Port Cancellation policy. They again tried to waffle on the 24 hour notice thing, saying I could only start the cancellation process 24 hours before the cruise began. Don't fall for this because it will be too late. The policy specifically says you have to cancel within 24 hours after notice is given.
Finally, she came back on after checking with a supervisor and told me I would have to pay the wholesaler's $75 cancellation penalty - better than losing the entire cruise amount. Hope this will benefit anyone who is thinking about cancelling.
It is now official - posted that the Ecstasy still plans a Cozumel stop, but has eliminated the Progreso stop. Doesn't say there is anything replacing that stop.
Yep, I was noticing the change and came here because you were asking last night about the change...its up on the site now on the link I posted last night. I see you saw the change and got cancelled...wow, sorry about the $75, could have been worse I guess.

Exactly, Tex. That is why I cancelled - they couldn't say what was going to happen. Earlier, they had said we could have an itinerary change to Key West and possibly Nassau which would have been cool. But to take us into one hurricane ravaged port? Give us a break
So what happens if they cancel a port of call. Do they give you partial refund or credit. Anyone know? Wife wants to cancel cause she feels that we paid too much $ just for a 5 day cruise to nowhere.
I would cancel but, i have waited tooo long and need the break. If i just have to relax and drink a tonic then thats where i will be. I have waited and planned over 6 months. And to get a refund iam sure will take upto 6 weeks or more.
As I understand it, it is per room. I'm not sure what all you can use it for. Have you tried to call the Carnival 800 line? Up until today, I found them very accomodating. Today, everyone seemed a little stressed, and had to go ask a supervisor when I asked questions.

One more thing - if you plan on cancelling, you should probably do so before 2:00 or so tomorrow. That is about the time I found out about the port cancellation (progreso) and that would trigger the 24 hr notification policy in the the Port Cancellation policy

Not being snide, but I have been thinking that there might be ports for months and months to come that are not up and ready for Ecstasy. I wish it were only your cruise that will be affected. You will be going in back of Dean, and could go in but the ports will not be up to having you there...and probably not for some time to come.
Those of us who cruise from Galveston are going to be affected for some time to come Im afraid.....but what can you do?

How did you get to this tropical weather update page on Carnival's website? I tried to find out some info earlier and couldn't find it!
In looking at the computer models this morning, it looks like Cozumel will take the direct hit and Progreso might be spared somewhat. Wondering if they will keep the Progreso stop in and take out the Cozumel stop now?
If the waves are bad at all, which I'm sure they will be, Progreso doesn't allow the ships to dock because of possible damage to the port. We weren't allowed to dock at Progreso on our very first cruise. The waves weren't that bad at all, but they are very careful with their port.
Let me first say that my prayers are with those that have already experienced the rath of Dean & for those yet to have to face it! I pray that Cozumel doesn't take another hard hit as after visiting a year ago, they are set on rebuilding & worked very hard to get to the point they are at now.
We are set to sail in 19 days to visit Costa Maya & Cozumel...I hope no other storm approaches any time soon!...But...should Cozumel/Costa Maya be hit hard, will they take us to a damaged port or reroute to another port of call? Just wondering.
