Default Kareoke??

Okay, I used to sing with live bands on Jam night, back in the oldin' days, but can someone tell me how it works on Kareoke night?
I have only seen Kareoke done on 2 different nights in our local bars....
Are there nights/days you can go on and just practice? Or do you actually have to sing on a busy Kareoke night?

Thanks, Tammy

Hi Tammy, Karaoke is normally presented each and every night on most Carnival ships I've been on lately. It's usually a lot of fun, and no one is forced to sing, but everyone has a great time. You'll find that you get to know many of the people who frequent karaoke, and it really gets to be a clique before long. On seven night cruises they have what they call "Carnival Legends" show, where there are 10 different stars who's music will be performed on stage (the BIG show lounge) the last night of the cruise, and they pick 10 people to do these stars. Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, etc. etc. Loads of fun! On shorter cruises, they have a passenger talent show, where they select 8 people to perform on stage (the BIG show lounge). This is also a lot of fun, and I'd highly recommend that you give it a go if you sail a shorter cruise.
I have no doubt that you'll have a GREAT time at karaoke aboard Carnival.

See you abaord,

Ken

We just got off the Inspiration on Saturday.

We watched Karaoake 3 different nights while cruising and it was great! The later the night went on and the more beer/drinks that were consumed, the braver people became! And I might add, there was some VERY good singers too! There was a lot of talent on the Inspiration!

They had "family" karaoake until about 10:30 pm, where the kids could sing. Then after 10:30 it was adults only. The kids were fun to watch, but the real talent was when the kids left.

No, I wasn't brave enough to do it. Maybe another day.

Did you attend the passenger talent show in the big theatre? It was loads of fun the week we sailed. I even got a standing "O", and a 24karet gold, plastic ship on a stick.

We just got off the Carnival Valor and I have to tell you that next to the Casino, Kareoke was the biggest thing on the ship. It was every night and lots of people go to it. They are VERY supportive and cheer people on. Some singers came with props and partial costumes.

On the last night they had "Legends Night" in the big theater and the best of the Kareoke singers (about 8 of them) got to perform with the live big band and it was a blast.

If you're good go for it. If you're not that good have fun with it anyway - there was every level of talent imaginable.

Just some tips. If you have your own CDGs, take them. Their selection varies greatly from ship to ship and some of the "popular" songs can be worn out.

Karaoke is one of the reasons I cruise. It gives me a safe, usually smokefree (smoking is allowed just outside the lounge) to do what I love.
I do carry my own custom CDGs because I have a very limited range and each song I do has to be in a particular key. 90% of the time the key control works but on some ships (like the Fantasy) it does not.

Now I can rip, alter and burn off my computer with no problems. (I carry my originals to prove the songs are not pirated).

I would also suggest that you step right on up the first night. That is usually when it is the slowest. The karaoke host uses me as an "opening" act until they can get folks to signing up. Some cruises are slower than others. On the Fantasy last week, there was NO ONE singing....but LOTS of watchers. I got to sing a lot, but I also got the chance to get other folks involved who normally would NEVER get up there. I LOVE THAT!!!

One lady kept signing up her husband and making him sing. So when she went to the ladies room, I walked over to him and asked him if he wanted to get her back and he said "sure". When she walked back in, she (and her friend) were "informed" that they were needed on stage to sing backup to Midnight Train to Georgia (complete with choreography).
They were great sports and had a blast! It was their first time on stage!

They usually also have "crazy karaoke" one night ...which is fun, too. You just close your eyes and the host picks your song. I am a perfectionist when I sing...but if folks are willing to listen to me sound good...I should be willing to make a fool of myself!! It was a hoot!

Have a great cruise!!!

I have done karaoke once, on Navigator of the Seas they had "Karaoke Idol" complete with a board of judges who made comments and held up numbers for scores. The finals [at the ice rink] were especially fun, because we got to mingle with one another backstage, and they ran our pre-taped interviews on the big screen when they introduced us.
I also took part in the guest talent show on Holiday with the live band. Got my ship-on-a-stick and a bottle of "the Captain's champagne" [that means non-alcoholic].
