I heard Costa Maya Pier is gone !!!

My newest best Mexican Port and their awesome pier was torn apart by whats his name.. glad I still have a picture of it... Best massages for the price ever.

Thanks for posting the picture. My heart goes out to the people of the port facility and the village of Majahual. They are hoping to be up and running again in 6 - 9 months. I just don't see how that can be possible.

I have almost the same exact picture taken of the Costa Maya pier...same ship is on the left on my photo too!

As for the pier, it amazes me that any storm could rip apart a concrete pier. Makes you humble as to what Mother Nature can whip out.

Considering the construction methods and standards used in Mexico, it's an absolute miracle any stuctures survive a hurricane of that magnitude. Of course, as backwards as their methods are, they know enough not to build below sea-level, something I hope the city engineers go to hell for in NOLA.

Thanks for the pictures Captian. My stomach actually sank when I saw them because I can only imagine what the homes look like on land. Has anyone heard or seen how much of the village is left? Carla

I read that they built the Costa Maya pier to withstand a cat 5 hurricane but it's in chunks now (I can only imagine it looks like the Cozumel pier picture I posted). Makes you wonder if the engineers were off or we just aren't able to protect ourselves against such a force.

Also, the shops that we all enjoyed are gone. The concrete buildings that were left are going to be leveled because of the tidal surge. They also said that because the pier is in chunks, that tendering is impossible until they get everything cleared out.

The good news is that Carnival has a lot of money invested in the port and it's shopping district, and will do its best to get things back on track.
