Well, recently returned from our first cruise, myself, husband, 15 year old son and 11 year old daughter.
Travel to the pier was a breeze, took Mears transportation from Orlando airport.
Everything on the ship was really good. We were travelling during the week of Hurricane Dean so there was one night and one day that were pretty rocky. Food was abundant!! Ship was crowded but never had trouble getting chairs by the pool. My son had a GREAT time, was out every night until very late with the other teens in the club and then just hanging out. My 11 year old went to Camp Carnival a little bit here and there but not all day.
Ports were Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten: In the bahamas, we took a cab to the public beach by the Atlantis, did a banana boat ride on the beach... then walked through the Atlantis (just to see it!) and took a cab back to the boat.
In St. Thomas, booked an excursion through Carnival which in the end I feel was way overpriced. Did the Coral world/Magens Bay excursion. Coral World was an aquarium, okay but not so impressive. Magens bay was beautiful but we only had about 1 1/2 hours there which I wish was longer.
In St. Maarten, we took the water taxi right over to the downtown beaches and for $10 you got 2 chairs and two drinks!! stayed there all day which was the most relaxing excursion. Looked in some of the stores first before hitting the beach.
Had breakfast the first two days in the Platinum dining room, service was on the slow side there, after that went to the Lido Deck and got omelettes cooked to order with everything else on the side and much quicker!!
Sat down for breakfast in the Platinum on the last day at sea.
Dinners were all very good -- had the 6:15 seating which was a little on the early side but worked better for us than the 8:30 seating.
Loved the pictures -- ended up purchasing about 6 of the 8x10's and an album to display them. Casino was way too smoky for my liking, it was the only thing that really bothered me on the ship.
Disembarking was very organized. You get numbers now for your luggage, if you have an early flight (before 1:30) you show proof of this and then you get an lower number that will be called first. No complaints whatsoever about the disembarking.
Worst part of the trip was being stuck in the Orlando airport for hours trying to get home because of fog in NY. Got to the airport at 10:30 for a 1:50 flight and did not board a plane until 5:30!!!
Thanks for your review, I'm so glad you liked your Carnival Glory cruise. We sailed on her last year and loved it. I can relate to what you're saying about the short time available at Coki Beach. We had the same experience booking an excursion thru Carnival to St. Johns, we just about got to Trunk Bay, jumped in the water to snorkel and it was time to leave..if you go to St. Thomas again and want to visit that beach, you can just take a taxi from the pier and stay as long as you like...you don't have to book an excursion thru Carnival, it's easy to do on your own. That goes for all the destinations you visit...if you just want to hang out on a beach, the taxis are plentiful when you exit the ship and you can ask your taxi driver to pick you back up at a specific time to return you to the ship. In St. Maarten we took a taxi to Orient Beach and our driver returned at exactly the appointed time to pick us up. I'm glad your son had a good time...I sailed last year with my grandson who was 15 and he LOVED the Glory. I think we went to that exact same beach that you did on Paradise Island in Nassau, the water was spectacular.
Glad you had a great trip. We are going on the Glory next April on our 1st cruise. Can you tell me the cost incured for your transportation from airport. Thanks...
Colts18 -- Mears Transportation was $35 per person- each way to go from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral. I did not pay in advance, just go right up to the counter and pay when you get there. The Mears representative actually scoped us out while we were by the luggage carousel by the Carnival tags on our bags!! After we paid, waited for our bus and off we went. They took our luggage and when we go to Port Canaveral they take care of the luggage there...
we are sailing on glory 0n 3 NOv 2007 to?????????????, at the direction of Dean and felix, we will go some where, anything i should look for on the ship?
P.s. this is our second time on glory, we rode her on the inagural season ans was great bob
We are going on the Glory next April on our 1st cruise.
Hmmmm, that's a problem. What will you do for an encore? I don't know if you're doin eastern or western route, but it really doesn't make much difference. Glory should blow you away with it's size and amenities. Also, Port Canaveral if a fantastic facility. Have a great trip, but really, how yah gonna top this next cruise?
