Default A Different Muster Drill Question

Is there any way I can get Carnival to waive the required muster drill thing? Can I sign something instead? The last 2 times I was on Carnival, the life jackets were filthy and smelly. Not to mention it was hot and humid outside so we were sweating profusely. I wouldn't mind if the lifevests were clean and they had these drills indoors in the A/C. Thanks for any help and/or advice.

I doubt that you'll have any luck getting out of the muster drill, since it's a requirement of the SOLAS regulations, but I suppose you could ask. Maybe they'll get you some new, fresh life jackets instead of those smelly ones that are always in the room. I'd bet that you can get your cabin steward to supply new jackets if you ask him or her.
Good luck!

Umm...
YOU'RE JOKING RIGHT??

It takes all of 20 minutes, don't you want to know where to go if the ship is SINKING?!? --Y'know--to save your life?

You don't even have to wear the jacket. Just carry it with you.

We've always had to wear them for at least part of the drill. I always bring mine and wait until the last minute to put it on. I always make sure to have a regular t-shirt so the dumb thing isn't touching skin and I won't even mention the whistles...

Actually that's what I did on our recent cruise...carried the life vest...until 2 crewmen came up to me and told me that I had drowned.

They were really nice, made me laugh, and did a comedy act while they proceeded to put my life vest on me and chinch it up. They said that it was important for me to know exactly what to do in case of an emergency. My life might depend on it,...and you know what? They were right.

Just the things I would be complaining about if the ship was in distress. A smelly life jacket.

Trade it in, do anything, but don't miss what you need to do in the event of an emergency.

I didn't have a problem with the lifejackets at all. We got there early and waited for quite some time. If I get there early enough I'll hold off putting it on until they say so and then do it. I sweated big time while waiting (there were rows 5 deel and I was row 2!) for the drill to start and end....

If you are so concerned, bring some lysol wipes or wipe it down with a face cloth before the drill...

A little lysol and fabrees works great. And, if you have a problem with the heat just let a crew member know. They told me that they only need to know that you know how to get into the jacket in case of an emergency. And, you never know where you will be on the ship in an emergency. They were very accomodating.

Default Thanks for all your helpful replies

I always wait until they MAKE me put it on-lol! Also, if it's hot outside (like it usually is), I'll ask ahead of time if they'll let me go to one of the areas that has A/C. I'll try asking if they can also bring us cleaner life vests, what the heck- doesn't hurt to ask.

We tried to miss a muster drill, they do come after you and check your room. They will let you know to get your buns to the muster drill. Sometimes they have a paper and check the number on your life jacket and cross you off the list Its your room number. They did call the numbers off of people they missed till they had everybody. Ships do different things. Just for trying it we did get a letter from the El Captain about muster drills and why they have them. So we will never try that again. Muster drill here we come.

Muster drills are required-courtesy of the Titanic. I have never had cruddy life jackets like described. So it takes fifteen minutes-it could save your life.
