Default Grand Turk bike rental

We want to rent bikes on Grand Turks. Do we have to sign up for a shore excursion with the boat? Don't want to, but can't find out if there is a bike rental place on Grand Turks. Thanks

Are you talking about mopeds or bicycles? I don't remember seeing bicyles, but I think I saw mopeds. I don't know about renting them there or on the ship though. Grand Turks has a website I believe, you might want to check it out.

Don't get too excited about Grand Turk. It is not all some make it out to be. It is only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide. We heard so many complain after "Why did we go there?" Even the two different entertainers wondered why. We toured the island with no bathrooms available till we got back on the ship. Maybe others liked it but we wouldn't get off the ship again for it much less book a cruise there. We did see some ppl on mopeds and they would slow down the tour buses and almost get run over when the buses would pass.

I would be very careful riding a moped around the island. Now, unlike CA Cruiser, we enjoyed the island. It's not a rich little island, there is not a lot of shopping. We took the island bus (which is expensive and has to be booked through the cruise line) it took us around the island to points of interest. It's at your leisure so you can spend as much or as little at any of the stops. We went to Her Majesties Prison downtown. It's an old actual prison. A lot of history to it. Sat and talked to one of the shop owners and he was very informative about the whole island. We went to the lighthouse and then walked down to the beach from there. This is where the cliffs are. They are very pretty. You can also go to Old Cockburn town which is close to the prison.
Here is a link to the pictures from Grand Turks. Enjoy your cruise.

I didn't say we didn't enjoy it, I was just teling the poster not to get too excited about it like we did. We just thought it would be more than it was.

We just did the exact same thing last week; they offered only 3 stops on the island bus but no one chose to stop at the flea market. But there were no bathrooms available at the prison or lighthouse and the items they are selling at the flea market were their own personal clothes. Yes the water was beautiful and Margaritaville was hopping.

Regarding the mopeds, I agree, they could be dangerous. The horses, cows and bulls are allowed to wander anywhere they want on the island. The bus driver had to go around many of them.

I guess it's all about your expectations for a cruise. Since we don't go to shop, Grand Turk looks like heaven!

Let's see....not a Diamonds International shop in sight - in fact it doesn't look as though there are ANY shops in sight. Walking around this beautiful, and as of yet unspoiled island is just what I want. On an island such as Grand Turk, I don't really want to "do" anything - just enjoy the scenery and relax.

We sail in 10 days and I can't wait. Thanks for the photos - stunning.

Lakester,
Do a search on my posts, I am pretty sure I had posted somewhere on hefre about our bike (rental) experience on Grand Turk.
It was awesome.
I'll try to post the link later on, we just got back from a week's land vacation and am trying to catch up right now.
