Rene, I loved your pictures! Looks like a great cruise/trip. I'm not sure if it will be 2008 or 2009, but I'm going to cruise Alaska!

I loved your pictures!! I want to book another trip to Alaska now! We went in September - and next time, I think I"ll go back in June or July. You went in August? In September, it got dark around 8:30 or so..hard to imagine it stays daylight so long! I was hoping to see the northern lights - but didn't. We also went on the whitepass railroad - AWESOME excursion! How did you like the lumberjack excursion??? Thanks for sharing!!

We almost saw the northern lights. One night we were headed south so the back of the ship was facing north. At around 1:30am, the northern lights were actually visable. How do I know this? Because I heard it the next day. So I, along with lots of other people, decided to stay up to see them that night (or should I say early morning). I set the alarm for 1am and my DH and I went to sleep in our clothes. We got up and went out in the cold/freezing night. However, this night the ship was headed north so we had to go to the front of the ship where all the lights are. The lights were too much (like trying to see a meteor shower in the city). You could see off in the distance part of the sky that looked a little lighter but that was it. No colors, nothing. One by one people started leaving. The naturalist was out there with us but she gave up after 2am. My DH left right after her. I gave up after 3am. Oh well, maybe next time.

Oh cool...I thought you would see that more in September, which is one reason I went in September!! Like I said...next time I think I'm going in June/early July...

Actually you have a much better chance in September, it was just luck to see it in August.

I loved your pictures the one with the Puffin was cool. We didn't get to see that bird on our cruise. But we had different ports and we went at the end of May. Did you see any humpback whales?
