It would only matter if YOU are the Kmart of passengers.

You know, we are devoted HAL fans, but they don't have golf cruises. So we go on Carnival.
We sailed Elation,-- an old ship,-- last June and we loved it. Have sailed Spirit, and not our thing. But~~~we are booked in 2009 for Carnival's new Splendor.
Just my experience.

What an insult! Calling Carnival the K-Mart of cruise lines! Everyone knows it the Wal-Mart of cruise lines!
Hey, if you cannot get it at Wal-Mart, you don't need it! 8)

We have been on both lines, I love RCI, The Enchantment of the Seas is my favorite ship so far, and we were on that back in 2001. We were also on the Navigator, also beautiful. All the glass, and the adult pool area are great.
We have been on 2 Carnival ships, we were just on the Glory in May. I can't say enough good things about it. The food was a lot better on Carnival I thought. It was not the drunk party atmosphere everyone thinks. It was a beautiful ship filled with all kinds of people having fun.
Both lines are great, they both offer different things. I like the cabins on Carnival better, more space. I like the food and shows better on Carnival, I like the deck space/layout better on RCI. Prices are better on Carnival.
I have never been on the Triumph but I have heard great things about it, and the ports are wonderful! Go and have fun, you can't go wrong with Carnival. Give RCI a try next time!

I did not read all the replies that you received from your question, and I may be the "only" one that says the Carnival Triump is GREAT
I had read all kinds of BAD things about Carnival being a party ship. Well it can be, if you want to be in that kind of place.
We went on the Carnival Triumph, and I did not tell my friend of all the BAD things I had read, and this ship, to us, was the BEST so far.
I have not made reservatiions for the Carnival Liberty for this next Spring. I am really pleased with Carnival, so far.
This will make 8 cruises for me.
