Which Cozumel excursion do you recommend for 6 women traveling to celebrate a 50th birthday? We like more of a laid back atmosphere. My hubby went to Cozumel and went on the Playa Mia Beach Break and did not feel it was worth the money at all! Your suggestions please.
I'd consider Chankanaab Park, no excursion needed. You can grab a taxi at the pier and it's a 10 minute ride to the park. You can swim, snorkel, walk through the garden, relax on the beach. I think the park admission's about $14 now. here's an old photo of the harbor from the park.
We liked just renting a van and driving out to Punta Sur. You can't get much more laid back than that. I'd stop by a shop and fill a cooler with your beverage of choice. It's very inexpensive and they will take you on a tour of the reserve. You can see a great lighthouse, crocodiles, a few small mayan ruins and the beach was voted one the 10 most beautiful in the world by National Geographic and lots of iguanas. Oh and this is a Protected area for the Leatherback Sea Turtles.
My favorite beach in Cozumel is San Fransico Beach. The first time I was there it was just a beach with a little snack shack. I've returned several times over the years and the area has grown. In Jan. when I was there it was still a great beach but now has a bigger, nicer food service. Great service to the sun lovers. Lounge chairs for you to use, lots of water sports available. Even had a massage tent for even more relaxation. I always try to allow 3 or 4 hours to spend at San Fransico. Taxis available at pier to take you there and also at the beach for the return trip. Enjoy whatever beach you end up at.
I was reading about Mr. Sancho's Beach. Does anyone know anything about this beach?
It sounded like there was not an admission fee and you could buy drinks and food if you wanted to do so.
Thank you for any information on this
Darlene, Mr. Sanchos is the beach that my family prefers. The last hurricane took out most of the beach, so it is not very large. There is a single row of tables/umbrellas in front of the restaurant and then more to each side. There is a fresh-water swimming pool, showers, restrooms. The food is very good, the service was great. There is no charge for using the facilities. Wish I had gotten a better pic of the beach.
