Hi and welcome. I lived windward side of Oahu for about 10 years and we travelled to the other islands. Which part of Hawaii do you live? We considered near Hilo some acerage for roosters we were raising but decided too much jungle and my b/f I lived with had family mostly Oahu, but he grew up on the Big Island so knew a lot of the history.

I really miss Hawaii, but too much da kine Budweiser at all the lauaus lol, and I decided I had to get away. Hard decision I admit, loved Hawaii. I do plan to get back some day.

You are close enough to do some cruising to Australia or New Zealand where Id love to cruise....have some online friends there.

Thank You

We are originally from Hilo ( great when it's not raining)
But moved to Kona in 2000.
Sometimes you just need to get away,
even from paradise.

I do think it rained every time I was near Hilo. I like the horse country on Big Island the best, it reminds me of Kentucky.

I lived near (about 3 miles) Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, which everyone refers to here as PCC. We all thought it was terribly hoky, so its strange to read about it being such a major attraction to cruisers.

Anyway, glad to have you abroad.

Aloha Craig, and welcome to CruiseMates!

Hope you find it helpful. I've sailed the Spirit, and really enjoyed the ship. She's got an excellent layout, and not so big that you don't run into people you meet during the course of the cruise.

We didn't sail her to the Mexican Riv, but I have sailed that itinerary. Really enjoyed Cabo san Lucas.

Best advice is to simply go and enjoy all the activities that you feel like participating in, and relax as much as you like too.

Hi Craig,
Welcome to the world of cruising. You may want to read through the "first cruisers" section here and get a lot of tips:

Have fun!
