Default Tip for the ladies re: purses with magnetic closures...

If you put your Sail & Sign card in a purse that closes with a magnetic clip, the magnet will render your Sail & Sign card useless and you will have to go to the Purser's desk to get a replacement. A lot of the small, dressy purses have these magnetic closures.

Is that like putting a credit card in an eel skin wallet? I think that one was an urban legend:)

Cell phones will do that too. I locked myself out of my room at the Riverside Hotel in Ft Lauderdale last month. I did not have the magnetic closure but was told that it happens all the time from cell phones.

I never use magnetic clip purses anyway...too easy to have someone open and steal from it. My purses all have zippers.

speaking of this magnetizing thing - the cabin safes use your driver's license or a credit card, don't accidentally slide your room card through the safe or it demagnitizes it.... heard about this one from a woman having a drink at an aft bar....

speaking of id too, remember that no matter what, carry your license or passport getting off the ship depending on the port you're going to be in.

The safe does not automatically demagnetize your S&S card. The safe doesn't demagnetize anything. Objects in your pocket or near the card can demagnetize your S&S card, or any card with a magnetic strip for that matter. It's best to use a card with little or no importance; a gift card with no value on it, a hotel key card, etc. A valid credit card would not be advisable to use as your safe key. If it becomes demagnetized, you would need to get the safe open by security AND call your credit card company for a new card. I just use a S&S card from a previous cruise as my safe key which works fine.
