Default You bought what??

Yes, I need that marginally less expensive watch because it's on the boat!!

Yes, that painting would look perfect on my wall.. And I should buy it now because... It's on the boat...

Yes, I should buy that tanzanite--it's 50% off TODAY ONLY.. on the boat...

FOCUS:

Have you ever been caught up in the heat of the moment buying crap you don't necessarily need but bought it because you were on vacation,---on the boat or in port..? And if you're wondering, yes--there is a Norman Rockwell lithograph on my wall and I'm damned proud of it! haha

I once brought some costume jewelry on the Destiny during their $10 sale. It was the cheapest, worst quality of pseudo-gold I have ever owned. I wore it twice and it turned all kinds of colors. It was horrible. I recently just threw it away. What a waste.

On the other hand, on RCCL VOS I purchased several pieces of the "gold" by the inch in 2003. This stuff still looks brand new.

No more $10 sales for me.

I also bought a piece of real junk ring on the Conquest. Oh it looked beautiful during the cruise. I wore it both formal nights and once at home only to find one of the stones were missing when I took it off the last(3rd) time I wore it. Learned my lesson...you buy cheap you get junk.

Might as well take my money to casino...hehehe.

I "won" a painting at one of the art auctions aboard "Princess", and it cost more to ship it home than it's worth. IMO
The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) succumbed to the urge to buy one of the "gold by the inch" bracelets. It's started to loose its plating and turn green, so into the trash it went. WOW, what a great buy!

Oh yeah, don't buy the 'gold by the inch'. I bought a bracelet and it lasted a month, the 'gold' wore off.

I too learned my lesson after like the third cruise. I had all this junk at home and I wondered, why at the time I had to have it. I don't shop hardly at all when cruising anymore.

Also - way too many cruise pics, gold by the inch, $10 jewelry sales and my most recent purchase of a white blouse with blue embroidery I bought in Progresso. I know I will never wear it and wished I had left it there, even before I got back on the ship.

Did almost NO souvenir shopping in Cozumel because we were tired of being accosted by the vendors in the port shops. I did buy a Margaritaville Refrigerator Magnet to add to my collection and a new Carnival Photo Album, since my others were full.

I always buy a Christmas Ornament to commemorate the cruise and other travel and set up a small tree with these ornaments at Christmas. I did not buy one this time, due to the overbearing vendors and I already had one of the cruise ship anyway.

We do buy some art. I've also bought a few watches and saved a few dollars over what the same watch would cost on the internet. I've even bought a few loose gemstones just because the price wasn't too bad.

For everything we do buy, we generally research it in advance on the internet...

I usually buy a t-shirt at each port. They remind me of the cruises, and I've worn them a lot at home around the house.

we bought most of our ship photos, a silver snake ring for my son, which he loves but lost so I'll have to get another one on my June cruise), 2 Sensation coffee mugs and 2 Sensation t-shirts.

I bought some pearls for my wife while on the Ryndam a few years back.
I thought they were gorgeous and worth every nickel (many nickels).

When we had them appraised for insurance purposes we were told the value was less than 10% of what I paid.

We complained to HAL and they made the jewler give us our money back.

Seems most of the retailers (if not all) are independent of the cruise line.

i bought a few t-shirts in each port, looking at the size they were the size I always buy so didnt bother to try them on. Well apparently a XXL in the states is not the same as a XXL in the carribean... all my shirts were skin tight. Well live and learn... not all sizes are really the same or even close sometimes.

Very true. Also look at the size differences in shoes between the USA and Great Britain.

On the positive side I bought a Citizen watch in Grand Caymon that I still wear. On the negative side the water wallet I bought on RCCL leaked

Most of the souveniers I bought are still with me T-Shirts, A Funship Freddy Plush Toy, an Inflatable Carnivasl Ship that sits atop our fish tank and so on.......

I too have succummbed to the on-baord shopping..

The gold by the inch bracelet looked old and work after a few weeks later, the anklet (in warm weather) left a green mark around my ankle.

The jewellery store is a great place and you can find bargains. I am PLEASED with what I bought. Although the Canadian diamond ring I bought at home a few weeks ago is even nicer than the ring on the ship, but the ring on the ship is still quite stunning *BG*.

I bought a Mishima Opal bracelet for $65 (50% off) and it still is perfect and I still love it--no problems with it yet, but I did almost lose it once at work (it fell off as I was taking my jacket off).

I have enough fridge magents from most of the ports I have seen, so if I do buy any more it will be from a port I haven't been too--I am quite proud of how tacky my new botton freezer fridge looks with the 30+ magnets I have on it! I'll need to buy one or two from Jamaica and that will do until I can get back to Puerto Rico to pick up one or two from there.

Next cruise will be lacking on the "cheap and cheerful" gifts (fridge magnets and key chains are what I call cheap and cheerful). I will be brining back rum cakes and such, at least three or four.

I buy a Christmas ornament from each port and the ship. This year I'll have a Caribbean Christmas tree. The other day I found a 2 ft tropical Santa Claus to go with it.
Also buy a T-shirt from every port.
Oh yeah, there is a shop is Cozumel that has pretty horse status, so I always buy one of those. And some of those painted Mexican clay things that I put around the pool deck. Oh and a hammock or two.
When we go on Holiday or Fantasy and don't have to fly home I can bring more junk back. When we went on Destiny and had to fly home I only brought back t-shirts and ornaments.

We have you all beat. Now are the proud owners of two Televera Mexican bathroom sinks from Cozumel. We are the envy of all who visit our home.

I am wearing my gold by the inch, and it is only 4 months old. It has turned a color that is definitely not gold. I was reading some where that if you take it back on the ship, they will replace it for free. I don't think it will make it until next June, so no more gold for me.

Default Watch out

I had been looking for a new dress watch for a few months when I found exactly what I wanted while onboard. I did not buy it because I generally avoid buying non-consumables while on vacation. In addition, I was sure I could beat the price at my local jeweler. After the cruise I discovered that the watch in question was not available at any of my local stores. I was kicking myself for not buying it when I had the chance. I eventually ordered the watch from the watchmaker and paid more for it. Still love the watch and wear it often.

Greatest thing I have ever bought on-board? A salt and pepper shaker from the Conquest. This was in the shop where they have the tux rentals and flowers and special occassion things. They are china and one shaker fits down over the other. Oh yeah, they are also very fragile. I will be looking for them again next cruise.

I bought a nice looking 10.00 watch, simply because I had lost mine a while back and needed a timepiece... after I got home I realized there was such a glare on the face it was very difficult to see the time... do you see it my wrist now? Nope.....

Contact the cruise line and tell them you got ripped off.

We sent our appraisal and bad pearls back and were refunded.

Don't know why but I always buy way too many t-shirts. Must have 30 t-shirts I haven't worn. Why do I do it ? Oh well, some day when I can't cruise anymore they will look good on me (if they fit).......Jim H

I have bought three Tag Heuer watches on diffrent cruises, when I get lucky in the casino. They are the best prices anywhere including the internet as I have checked and they are an authorized dealer so the warranty is good. Love my watches bringing my Link with me on my cruise 11/18 on the Legend. Good Cruising all.

I do not buy a lot of souvenirs any more. On my first cruise back in February 1983 I bought a key chain on the ship. At that time Carnival had 4 ships. One side of the key fob has the Carnival Logo and the other side had the 4 ships listed. I still have this fob on my key ring and considering its age ans the daily use it gets it is in relatively good shape. I had it with me at the past guests party on the Liberty recently. I showed it to the Cruise Director Todd Whitmer, he was amused by it.
