Default San Diego - place to stay and room ?

Hey, all!
We've booked our first cruise to Mexico in January!! Where is a good place to stay in San Diego so that we can catch a quick cab to the dock to meet the ship?

My dh got a room on the Empress deck, forward. The person making the reservations said, "unfortunately, you're on the forward part of the ship..." When dh asked what he meant, he said "oh, nothing, I shouldn't have said that." Is this room okay??

Thanks very much!
Marilyn

There are several hotels within walking distance to the dock........Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites. Kayak.com is a good site to check out hotel prices.

We stayed at a best western that had free shutlle service, and was so close to the pier you could see the ships coming in.

I forgot to mention that we have had a cabin as far forward as you can get and we did not have any problems. You will feel the motion of the ocean a bit more, but it's great to put you to sleep.

There are many hotels near the port and the airport, which are close to each other. They have free shuttles to and from the airport and pier.

We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Bayside because they have a "Park and Cruise" deal.

San Diego is a great destination city, easy to get around and many tourist attractions. If you can, spend several extra days there.

You're very welcome. We'll be on the Spirit for her Christmas cruise. If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to help if possible.

Default Check Travelzoo

I found some great deals on San Diego hotels on Travelzoo. 5 star $300 per night rooms on sale for $139. You should check there.

We sailed on Elatin in October and stayed at the Omni in the gaslight district. It was a $10 cab fare to the port. Booked the hotel on Priceline and paid $105. The Holiday Inn is basically right across the street from the pier. Neat place..........have a great trip.
