Default Alarm Clocks on the Carnival Destiny?

Hi Cruisemates,
I'll be cruising for the very first time in December on the Carnival Destiny and have several early tours lined up at the ports. How can I be sure that I'll get up in time to be off the ship around 8 or 9 AM? Are there alarm clocks in the room, or does Carnival have Free Wake Up Calls if you call and request them?

What works best for all of you? Do you bring an alarm clock with you?

I'm planning on being up late at the bars/clubs so I'll need all the help I can get. Thank you very much!!!

Hi TH,
They do have a wake up service, no alarm clocks, just the time on the phone. What also works well is, ordering room service the evening before and set it for a time that you need to be up, they always call before they bring the food up, so it makes a great wake up call and then you can have that first cup of coffee and get ready for the excursion.

I use one of 3 things, either the Carnival wake up call service, my cell phone's alarm clock, or room service to wake me up. All have worked well for me.

I brought 2 alarm clocks with me both bought in IKEA for 99 cents each. Used one to wake up early and take my meds and other to get up finally for the day.

Nothing will wake you up like those @()$)+~@ telephone wake-up calls. Those phones are loud, they are located on the opposite side of the cabin from your bed and they don't stop ringing for several minutes if you don't answer the phone!!

My first experience with the telephone wake-up system was a nightmare. The evening before, I set it for 6:00 a.m. Decided that 6:00 was too early and then set it for 7:00 a.m. I then left the cabin and stayed up until 3:30 a.m. drinking, dancing and helping the young folks shut down the dance club and eat all the pizza on Lido Deck. When I returned to my cabin at 3:30 a.m., I realized that a 7:00 a.m. wake-up was a bit optimist and set the phone wake up system for 8:00 a.m.

Well, as luck would have it, setting a NEW time on the wake up call system DOES NOT!! cancel out the previously set wake up call

NOTE: I had an inside cabin (no window, no way to gauge the time of day).

WELL. . . . , the following morning the phone rang at 6:00 a.m., (jumped out of bed blindly to stop that blasted ringing and dove back in the bed). It rang at 7:00 a.m. (woke up, started to take a shower, thinking it was 8:00 and happened to look at my watch. . . went back to sleep). It rang again at 8:00 a.m., by then I was very close to committing phone-icide (the vicious and painful killing of a phone)!!!!!

Morale of the story is. . . do not forget to CANCEL any previous settings if you change your wake up time!!! The system does not automatically cancel the wake up calls so that different cabinmates can each have their own wake up time.
