Default cost of extras

i would like to book a cruise out of jacksonville for my family of 5...
we have a quote of 1611 .. sounds great but we are concerned about all the extras ....
can someone help me with a price list (i didnt get friendly customer service rep on the 888 #)

any information on what we could expect to spend on extras would be wonderful...

we have never cruised before and look forward to finding out what all the hype is about

Well, out the gate...
Expect $10.00 per day for at least the first two persons in each cabin to be added to your on board account for tips.
3rd, 4th and 5th persons in the same cabin will be charged at least 1/2 that.
I STRONGLY suggest you go to a travel agent. Not only will you not pay more but he/she may even save you some money.

You will get many more helpful answers here very shortly.

You will LOVE cruising.

I also have a family of 5 and we are booked for a cruise Feb '09. Check your prices per person carefully and you will find that if you book 2 connecting cabins it's only tiny bit more and well worth it. Price it out---you'll see what I mean. I want to say it's only $100-$200 more for what feels like a suite.

Hi
I would also check into getting to cabins. 5 people in a room is alot and it should not be much more for two cabins.
I would check with a travel agent that you know before booking with who
ever you talked to at carnival.
Dont understand why that person was not friendly. If that person was
that bad I would report them to carnival. I have always had very nice
people when I call carnival. But I always have booked with my TA.
As far as extra's you will be billed for other than cruise its self is 10.00 a day for tips. They work hard and earn that. Mostly your cabin boy or girl and your waiter at dinner. The new gas surcharge is most likely already added in to your trip since you are not going till Feb. 2008.
If you have any coupons for carnival you can use those also.
on the ship you only have to pay for drinks and soda.
you can buy the kids soda cards.
Travel agent will give you all info you need.
I think my ta always gets me more for my money than calling carnival and booking. ????
Guess it might depend on the questions you ask in the beginning.
Good Luck
sammy

I have to agree, use a good travel agent. They may have some group space booked on certain cruises that you can take advantage of and save some $. As far as the tipping, I would figure the $10.00 per day, per person. I've never heard of 1/2 for tips before, kids require the same amount of work for the crew or more than the adults.

Any excursions, drinks are also extra onboard. The soda cards may be a good value if you drink a lot of soda.

Bar products are extra as well as fancy coffees.

You have kids... The arcade is extra.

Any pictures that are taken around the ship that you decided to bring home with you are extra.

Any excursions you buy through Carnival are extra and can be expensive.

To start it depends how are you going ??
Just a few extras, you don't need to do them but some you do and some you should and the rest is up to you. To each their own.
Insurance, fuel surcharge
Air, Baggage Tips, port parking. Day before or day after hotel + more baggage tips and transportation.
Just parking and baggage tips at airport.
then Tips of $10. a day for each person.
then if you want Drinks, pictures, gifts, supper club, excursions, casino, camp carnival, health spa, internet, spending money in ports or the bigge SHOPPING. Everybody will be different.
It is interesting , What does that cruise really cost ??.

It may be 10.00 per person on Carnival. On NCL, the tip charge is 5.00 for ages 3-12. I assumed the family of 5 had younger kids. Under 3 years there is no charge.

Just found this on Carnival's site:

What is the tipping policy onboard?

Service Gratuities

For your convenience, we automatically charge the gratuities for dining and stateroom staff to your onboard Sail & Sign account. The total amount is $10.00 per guest, per day (our recommended guideline) as follows:

$ 3.50 Per Day Stateroom Services

$ 5.50 Per Day Dining Room Services

$ 1.00 Per Day Alternative Services: distributed to other kitchen and hotel service staff

For Cruises-To-Nowhere, gratuities of $10 per guest, per day must be prepaid.

Our Staff is totally committed to exceed your expectations in every way possible. If you are not satisfied with the service you receive, we encourage you to contact the Purser’s Information desk while onboard. This will allow us to address your concerns in a timely and appropriate fashion. At your discretion, you may adjust the gratuities at any time.

For beverage purchases, fifteen percent of the bill is automatically added to the Sail & Sign charge. Room Service staff may be tipped as service is rendered. Tipping your Maître d’ is at your discretion, based upon the service you receive.

Just a note.....
If you order Room Service (great fast service) then you need to Tip the person that brings it to you.... We always take a wad of $1 bills for that purpose.... They are not paid through the standard $10 a day per person tipping.....
You can also have The $10 a day tipping changed, not set in concrete...

so they do not add 15% to your tab for the room service delivery?

No, not for room service, you'll need to tip the person who delivers it.

My daughter and I just returned recently from 7 day cruise on Glory and our sail and sign account was slightly over 600. We only did 2 excursioins (that part was total of 198) rest was a little shopping, tips, photos, etc. My point is...the bill can add up quickly. Our bill for the 5 day cruises usually runs around 350-400. We never go to the spa, prices seem a little steep there. Would rather do that here at home at a familiar place. I'm not sure how young a cruiser can be and be able to "charge" things on the sail and sign account. My dtr has been able to since we started cruising around age 12. I'm sure a bar bill could get out of hand easily. I usually don't drink on the cruises except at the Captains Reception/past guest parties so that doesn't play into my bill.

Well for a 5 day I figure $150 in tips automatically right off the bat for tips for 3 of us. If we tip room service in cash, that will not be factored in. We will buy one, maybe two soda cards. We do not drink alcohol at all. Hmmm what else? We are doing excursions on our own so that won't add in. We are going to do Atlantis via Comfort Inn. Maybe specialty snacks or drinks I have seen? Who knows. Gives me a good idea at least, thank you!

Here's a way to SAVE, leave your Sail & Sign card in your vault (ooops, you have to use it to open the cabin door.. )
Another Tip... Get the kids to drink hot chocolate (free) & forget the Soda..

Don't get serious on me, all in fun..

Or let them drink lemonade. You can get it for free in the Lido most of the day on Celebration.
