Your government is telling Canadians who fly to the US to have a passport. They even want a passport at the border crossing, even though it is still OK to have a BC/DL. Americans can still come into Canada with a DL/BC, but we can't get in to the US with just a BC/DL anymore....Most Canadians have jumped on the band wagon and gotten passports. Anyone who is even thinking of going South for any reason is getting one. Our wait is still long because everyone knows they need it to get out of Canada and to get back in Canada.

The US government is getting out of control. They appear to no longer want to do what its citizens want it to do. I feel the citizens will not tolerate this too much longer.

I respectfully disagree. I see no problem with having requirements for passports.

I feel the same whats good for 1 is good for the other what I gathered is they are worried about letting the south of texas's border people get into work with out causing them prolbems Oh my we can't have that, they say it would cause a crunch like the passport did and they do not want that again its a card for them to travel back and forth in the USA

I have no problems with the passports requirements... as long as it is for EVERYONE!! United States' citizens will have to have a passport to go to Mexico and to return. Now... the Mexican citizens will only have to cross the border, get their resident alien cards and sponge off the United States' benefits that you and I have ot pay for. Then, they return to Mexico without having to show any passport.

In a nutshell.... EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A PASSPORT IRREGARDLESS OF CITIZENRY!!!

Michael,

Easy tiger, I have to agree that we have a border problem. Looks like you hail from Texas and have a more direct inpact from the problem. I'm up here in Central New York where we still speak English as a first language.

Let's close the door on the spin zone, huh?

Each "side" (unfortunately, that is what it has come to) has the same inane argument as the other.

We have a HUGE problem with no ready solution as long as there is partisanship.

To put a person's (or a party's) name on a problem that has been brewing for many years is self-serving and assinine.

And no, I do not have a party affliation.

We are saying Canada and Mexico but I think the thought behind everyone getting/having a passport came about because of 9-11. Bush's thinking was to track the people from the middle east that were here and the ones who desired to come here. It also helped us to trace our neighbors to the north and the south. We need to establish a deadline for people to have their passports and keep it.

Federal bureaucracy!!! Big brother can't address the illegal immigration policy any better than they can get their thoughts together on passports.... what a muddle !!
Hopefully everybody understands by now that they need a passport. Anyone who will be leaving the country should have at least applied for one by now. Based on my experiences, passports are a necessity and anyone who thinks of cruising without one is NOT very prudent.

I know that getting in and out of places are so much easier with the passport. Wish they would just make it everyone had to have one and get it over with.
First time cost can be high if you have to buy more than one or two
but sure makes life good.. renewing is not so bad..
We were just in Punta Cana and wow the difference how easy it was
with the passport. Last time we were there it took us almost a hour and
a half to get out of the air port and with the passport it was less than
15 minutes.
So I say lets go government and get this over...

Earlier on here everyone was saying they paid different prices for their
passports and they should get that straight so we are all paying the same price. Could not find that article. I know I paid 107.00 and my husband just got his and it was 97.00. so whats up with that??

So my thoughts are take the pain away and just get a passport....
hubby's was here in a day or two under 4 weeks..

this would be easy, just add data base with passport and possible barcode system...theres almost always a way around stuff...its found and fixed.
