Default Holy Upgrade!!!!!!

WOW!!!! Our PA just called and we have been upgraded from a Cat 8C to a Cat 11 Suite!!! Christmas has come early.

Does anyone have any pics of a Cat 11???

Also she said we would have VIP check in, is there a lounge or just a seperate line???

What ship and port are you sailing from? Most ports have some sort of VIP lounge or waiting area

Congrats on the sweet upgrade!

We have a few pics in the Photo Gallery. Look under "Paradise to Mexico" and the date was Sept 15, 2007
By the way, you are going to love being able to board first and stand in a much shorter line.....
Congrats, we are hoping for the same thing for our cruise next august...

I am happy for you! I can only hope one day I get suprised and get upgraded to a better category out of the blue instead of booking a sale where an upgrade is part of the deal.

I can cross my fingers that our cruise in February on the Conquest gets up bumped up from a Cat 11 to Cat 12 cabin!!!!!!

I was upgraded too. But to my surprise the window and big room were on the 7th floor at the front of the ship. I rocked and rolled all over the place. The second floor people didnt feel a thing. My maid was puking while cleaning my room.

Hope you got a good room in a good position on the boat!!
I would have preferred the bunk beds I originally had!!

Find out what cabin and compare the location before accepting. That happened to us too this past August. The larger cabin was wonderful as were the perks; free one time bar set up and laundry BUT the cabin was the first one all the way forward directly under the gym. We were woke up every morning at 7 by the treadmils above us and we couldn't use the balcony while cruising because it was too windy to walk out there. It was so windy out there our cabin steward had to remove some of the furniture.

Thanks for all of the wonderful responses . I never would have thought about having a suite in a bad location, thanks for the heads up. I just checked and we are in cabin 7259 and my parents are in 7251 on the Glory. From the deck plan they appear to be about a third of the way back from the front of the ship. Is that a pretty good location?? I hope so because we were so excited we accepted without even thinking.

As I said before we will be sailing on the Glory out of Port Canaveral. SO what can I expect from the VIP check in there?? A lounge or just a seperate line??

Well once again thank you for all of your responses. We feel very fortunate.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I wasn't platinum the last time I cruised out of Port Canaveral so I can't help with the VIP lounge there. The location of your cabins sounds great.

Congrats again,

Congrats!
This happened to us as well on the Spirit! LOVED it!

While you're on the Glory, make sure you have some of the Fish & Chips for me! They are ever so yummy! They're located on the 2nd floor of the Lido buffet. Many people don't know it's there!

How exactly does the up grade thing work? Does booking early better your chances?

Ok, sorry but I just want to make sure I understand this. I assume that once a certain type of cabin is sold out and more requests come in for that particular type, Carnival will upgrade you to a better cabin? That would be awesome! Also, if I remember correctly, when our travel agent was on the phone with Carnival, it seems that she requested an upgrade if possible. Could that be so? My memory isn't what it used to be!!

These types of upgrades... to a suite.. are as mysterious as they are rare. Enjoy it!! Almost 60 cruises under our belts and it's never happened to us.

My theory is they are much more likely to upgrade first or second timers than they are long time repeat customers. Wanna get the newbies hooked

Kuki, I think you're right about giving upgrades to newbies. On our first cruise, which I happened to mention to the cruise line, we were upgraded from a oceanview cabin to a penthouse suite (as they call it). We were on the Fantasy. Not only were we hooked on cruising, we were hooked on balconies.

rsumrow79--congrats on the upgrade

Kuki -

I have been upgraded at least a full category on five of my seven cruises, but I tend to book category guarantees. Also, four of these upgrades took place on the Smokefree Paradise, which likely had something to do with my luck. From what I understand, once the ship's itinerary is taken off the market, Carnival will generally bump people up to better accommodations, since they can't sell these cabins anyway.

One thing that may have happened here is that the individual was booked into a designated handicapped room that was needed, so they got the upgrade.

I recently booked a 6E suite for four on the Splendor's inaugural cruise next July. At the time of booking, I was warned by the PVP that Carnival reserved the right to take the cabin if they needed it for a handicapped individual. In that case, they would, at a minimum, give me an 8A outside balcony in exchange.

A category or two within a cabin "grade" is pretty common, but I don't really consider them upgrades. Same cabin on a different deck basically. Closer to the buffet maybe, but further from the dining room or visa versa.

I am actually surprised that they would even allow you to book a handicap cabin that far out from the sailing date, regardless of if they informed you that you may have to move.

I agree, an upgrade to me means "oceanview to balcony", "balcony to suite", the OP has been smiled upon. I've talked to many and that just doesn't happen very, if ever, often. Kudos for the stars, lucky as they were

Those sure look like great staterooms to me! then again all staterooms on a cruise ship look great to me.

Good for you. You will love the Glory. We were upgraded to a CAt 11 on our last cruise on the Victory. The rooms are great and that deck is in a good loacationn. As for "Skipper" status, that means you will not have to wait in long line at check-in. It took us only about 20 minutes and there were 6 of us in 3 rooms.

Enjoy

We've been on three Carnival cruises, a balcony on Lido once, a suite on Lido once, and this month we'd booked a balcony on Lido but were upgraded to a suite on Empress. Had a lovely time on Triumph. I found out three days before we left that we were upgraded and only because I double-checked the room on the Carnival website. I like to book the room we want so we'll be sure to enjoy the site. We've been on other cruiselines but have been very happy with Carnival We went thru the internet to book this time and all was smooth.
