i think i can get some zip ties on them..if that is enough to satisfy carnival, i'd be glad to do it..i just didn't want to have to leave bags at port..

I never locked my luggage I did tie the tag string into the hole on the zipper pull and knot it so it couldn't be opened unless the string gets broken. I did buy once these orange plastic pull thrus that some security luggage place was selling online they gave me like 50 for ten bucks but they were a pain to get off even with scissors. Other than that I never lock my luggage and never had a problem.

I don't understand the requirement to lock your luggage. I read elsewhere about bringing alcohol onboard that they were even checking bottled water for alcohol instead of water ! Any ideas ? If our luggage has to be locked then passengers CAN bring alcohol onboard , no ?

Each piece of luggage must be locked (once you get to the terminal) and have a colored bag tag listing the guest's name, ship and stateroom number. Bag tags are mailed with cruise documents and additional tags can be obtained at curbside from the porter, if necessary.
as on carnivals bagged resrictions..

I would think your luggage goes through an x-ray machine before it goes
aboard the ship. I believe the carry on does.

I did not, nor could I, lock my suitcases when I put them out the night before the cruise ended. I had locks on the suitcases for embarkation, but the keys, along with whatever loose change, were lost when I misplaced my change purse in the casino one night. I had no problem at all.

Take some tape, packing tape or duct tape, and put a piece over the opening. IF the tape is gone or ripped, then look through your bags for missing items, or a homeland security letter saying your bag was selected for a random check.

I never locked my bags before with a lock when did this start? Like I said in my earlier post all I do is tie the luggage tag string into the hole zipper pull and knot it. Is this locked luggage something new?

I have never locked my bags either. I have never had a problem. The Carnival employees are not going to lose their jobs on the off chance there is something worth stealing in your luggage. Remember, everything on and around the ship is under surveillance.

Most people are smart enough not to put jewelry or pricey electronics in their checked baggage so the chances of an employee getting something worth having is slim. Carnival employees do not want your clothing or toiletries.

What I will do is watch my bags at the port until I see them being loaded on to the ship. I tend to arrive early at the port and will just stand around the bin my bags are located in has been picked up with the fork lift. This is less to make sure no one steals anything and more just to assure myself that my bags have made it onto the ship.

The ONLY time I locked my luggage, they broke the lock. I have never locked any of my luggage since then. I never put anything I consider valuable in my luggage, and I'm sure no one wants my clothes!!!

Thats actually the same way I feel Libra. If someone wants my clothes that I pack they can have them and that is why I do not lock the bags only tie the string from the cruise tag on the zipper pull.

You cant lock luggage your stuff at the air port but carnival wants you to lock it at the pier. They wont be responible if anything is taken from that point.
They have new locks pretty cheap that you can use at the airport now and there is a special key they have there they can open them with if
they want to check whats in your bags.
I just bought them. So going to try them out in april.
I think the airport is responible for any thing stolen there but not from
the airport to your room on the ship.
you can use those ties too and then if they are cut you will know someone was in your stuff. The airport will put a letter in side to let you know they opened your stuff.
Better to be safe than sorry if someone at the pier would take something.
I carry my camera and important stuff on me so the only thing they could take from mine is clothing.
Its really up to you if you want to lock it.
You can read on carnivals web site what they tell you about locking things up.

I bought those special combination locks the TSA can open if they need to for inspection purposes. Put one on each of our carry ons. I don't travel with checked luggage. Ever. They are handy to use, and so far they haven't been "broken." Again, anything electronic/expensive/important is in my shoulder bag so all they'd get is old underwear, clothing, toiletries.

Default lock or not to lock

I'm sure they want the luggage locked due to not being able to supervise it at all times therefore with locked luggage no one has the oppertunity to stash anything in it !This all stems from 9/11 and its for everyones safety .

I locked my luggage last year and smuggled in two full sized, plastic bottles wrapped in towels..... (one jack daniels and one coconut rum).

My luggage arrived in my room, locked, alcohol safely inside.
