Negatives: Sometimes it's a long walk to stairs depending on the ship configuration. Less of a breeze. Cigarette butts on occasion (that's a whole different problem in itself). Sometimes less private.
Positives: Usually a little larger balcony. Sometimes a large balcony. Good view of wake. Sometimes it is more private.

I must say I'm happy to read this post. Being the 1st cruise I've ever planned for I opted to take the garenteed oceanview. I was assigned a aft cabin. I didn't think much of it till I saw shows called crusing dos and don'ts. They say stay away from aft cabins. Glad to see that some people enjoy the aft cabins. Guess I will find out how I like the aft in March.
I had an aft cabin on the Spirit to alaska and it was wonderful! No soot, no cigs as others stated - but beautiful scenery all around as we could see both sides instead of going from one side of the ship to the other. The walking to the elevators didn't bother me as - you walk so much on cruises, whats the big deal (exercise..lol). The balcony was larger and I have requested and recieved the aft cabin again for our 09 cruise to Alaska. They are usually the first ones to go. You won't regret it. Lucky you to get upgraded to it! I had to pay 100.00 more for it!
