Doing my second cruise this December western carribean with my family
but already planning my 2009 cruise , anyone here done the southern carribean ? i'd love to hear about it.
The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I love the Southern Caribbean iten, as you'll hit islands that are a little bit different. We love doing the Southern route from Florida, rather than San Juan for two reasons. First, we love sea days, and by sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, or Miami, you'll get more sea days, and less islands. When you sail from San Juan, you'll hit a different island every day, and frankly you'll come home exhausted! Also, since we live in Florida, we can drive to the port if we sail from Florida, but a San Juan sailing requires that we fly. I'd highly suggest looking at the Carnival "Miracle" eight day exotic southern trip. EXCELLENT!
I absolutely loved the Southern Caribbean. We did the San Juan route since my ex didn't know if he would like being on the ship that long. He was wrong. The sea days that we had were so relaxing. I did love seeing all of the islands but as Ken says.. it can be tiring.

Hi Jojack,
I absolutely love the Southern itinaries best myself. They are more port intensive, with may-be a sea day included, but great islands to visit. Only drawback that I can see, is the airfare to San Juan, but once there, you are right into the islands. There are some cruises that do the Southern route from Fl., but those are usually around 10 days, so if you have the extra time, thats always a good option.
The last cruise I took was a five day e. caribbean on RCCL and it stopped at 3 with one sea day...we had a blast but we were pretty exhausted. I remember the sea day being fantastic and relaxing.
That's why I'm going on my third cruise on March 30th on the Miracle to Southern Caribbean...8 days, three ports and four sea days! I can't wait. Good to hear you recommend the Miracle, Ken. Any highlights about the ship or the ports you can divulge?
Kojack, I'll let you know how the cruise goes and hopefully post some pics when I get back...maybe it'll help.
