Default Last minute travel in the summer?

In my thread "Buyer's Remorse" I mentioned several posts down about last minute travel but wanted to begin a new thread as that one might not get many looks as it's getting buried.

For those that book last minute cruises at great savings, what is the likelihood of a summer last minute cruise? Do the ships usually fill to capactiy and thus, no last minute cabins need sold?

If dh and I wait until the last minute how likely are we to find something for our family of four? We wouldn't be picky about itinerary or cabin if we go at the last minute, would just need to have room for our family of four (two kids).

JK,
I think I KNOW something about last-minute bookings!
But to answer your question for last-minute deals in summer: GOOD LUCK!!! I only wish, if it were that easy, we'd be cruising year-round!

To broaden that answer a little - last minute deals can definitely be found - but you have to be flexible. Especially in sailing date. Secondly in cabin selection.

Balcony cabins do sell out first, so if you see a good price on balcony cabin I would grab it. But as always, if you are willing to settle for a lesser cabin then I would say there are always last minute bargains available.

Cabins that will sleep 3 or 4 usually sell out quicker than cabins for 2. So you are less likely to find a last-minute deal for 4 people.

Last minute deals are great but they are not practical for everyone. If you are going to have to book airfare what you save on a last minute cruise can easily be lost on last minute airfare. Looking at all expenses and your vacation schedule many times the last minute cruise is not the least expensive vacation. It would be disappointing to wait for a deal and when time comes to buy nothing suitable is available.

I think that booking far in advance is the better way to secure a bargain. Summer is tough because rates are higher and last minute airfares can be steep also. Do yourself a favor and book early!
