Default Sailing out of Tampa questions

We just book the Legend out of Tampa on Jan 4 09. We've never sailed out of Tampa before so I have a few questions. What is the average cab fare from the airport to the port? Do you have any favorite hotels? Are there any hotels that offer BOTH airport and port shuttles? We will be arriving on Jan 1 so we will have 3 days to spend there before the cruise. Any suggestions on good beaches or other things to do?

Thanks for any and all input,
AKcruiser

Not sure about the hotels but i took a shuttle from the airport to the Tampa port for just $10. Great deal!

I think a cab from the airport to the port is $22. There are lots of good hotels in the WestShore area, or on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. I'd highly suggest visiting Clearwater Beach. We also have Busch Gardens, and lots of museums and the aquarium. I don't know for sure which hotels have complimentary shuttle service to the port, but I'm sure some do. I'd suggest getting on line, and perhaps calling a few for that info. You'll really enjoy sailing out of Tampa. It's one of the easiest, and best ports in Florida, IMO.

Hope to see you aboard!

if you get there early go to busch gardens we went there for a couple day before we went to the atlantis in the bahamass it was one of my most favorite theme parks ever! not sure about transportation but the embassy suites downtown tampa are good they we're like 4 minutes from the dock, but be carefull there lots of embassy suites down there so make sure to pick the one thats closet to the port of tampa.

Thanks so much for the info. I see where there is a shopping area there at the port. Do you know anything about it?

Is the Westshore area better than downtown? I see where Priceline lists them as 2 seperate areas.

Thanks again,

AKcruiser

The Westshore area is closer the the airport and the downtown area is closer to the Port of Tampa, which is in Channelside, many things to do there. Bowling, shopping, drinking, the Aquarium.

The downtown area is closer to channelside, and the port, however the WestShore area is closer to the airport, closer to 2 big, very nice malls, closer to a very wide selection of restaurants, and I would guess much less expensive. Actually they are only about 4 miles apart, or perhaps less than that, and I've heard there are hotels in that area that provide shuttle service to the port. Downtown pretty much shuts down after 6 oclock, but the channelside area is open late, late, late. Downtown is also closer to the Ybor City area, which is an interesting place. Check them both out, and IMO either will be a good choice.

Thanks so much for the input Ken and Ilove. I really appreciate your help. We think we'll stay at the Embassy Suites Downtown. It has the trolley stop right there and we can walk (I think) to Channelside. It looks like we'll need to grab a cab to the port on embarkation day, but it shouldn't be too much $$.

Crooozin,

Do you think they would mind if we haul our suitcases on the trolly? We usually travel with 1 each.

Default hotels and parking in tampa

The Marriot Waterside is within walking distance. Parking is right accross the street from the Pier. I would park there.
