Default Fuel Surcharge Experience & Question

I leave for a Carnival Cruise this Wednesday out of San Diego. I booked it in August and paid the balance right before Thanksgiving. I didn't really pay any attention when I got an email from Costco Travel in mid-december beccause I thought it was a copy of my cruise itinerary. Much to my surprise, as I was printing things out on Friday and reading closer, that I owe $80 for the fuel surcharge  I just assumed that sine I hadn't heard from Costco, I wasn't going to get charged. Anyway, I called Costco and they in turn contacted Carnival who said I'm paid in full and I don't have to pay the surcharge and was given the name of someone in Carnival that said I didn't have to pay it. Costco said they would follow-up w/ me tomorrow to confirm...but you can bet I am going to throw a stink if I get to the dock and they ask me to pay it....only because now they told me I don't have to...as far as I'm concerned...they can't be wishy washy on the subject. Anyway, I thought maybe people would be interested to hear my experience.

One question which I'm unclear on...as far as taking bottled water and soda on board, do I have to pack it or can I simply put a baggage tag on it?

Put it in your luggage.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Courage and perserverance have a magical talisman; before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into the air.

Pick your company wisely! Hang around people who are going to help you become all God created you to be.

I called a carnival rep last week and asked if they were giving people upgrades and credits on their sign and sail card if they called to say
something about the fuel charges and she said no.
I had booked my cruise last year and was paid in full and still got
a notice from my travel agent I had to pay the 70.00.
Carnival never emailed me about it just my TA....
Yes I guess you can take a case of water and soda on in your
luggage if you want.
I take a empty bottle I can keep filling with ice and water on the ship
instead of taking a case of water.
Hope you have that in writing that you got lucky and dont have to pay
the fuel charge. Good luck with that.

Have a great cruise...

I put a luggage tag on a 12 refridge pack (carton), inside a soft-sided cooler, and it got thrown around so badly that a couple of cans leaked, and a few got really dented. I'll carry it on next time!!

Send a message via AIM to KACORPARENTS
Default surcharge

If you have written confirmation on not having to pay the fuel surcharge....I would take a copy of all the documentation with you to fight your cause...
Good luck

That's interesting. I booked thru Costco too, and they sent me the emails quite late regarding the surcharge. I thought they had decided not to charge me.

Im not paid in full, so I guess I cant get away with not paying the fuel surchage?
