Default Group rate

I have 6 other couples that I think are going to be booking a cruise with me. How many bookings does it take to get a group rate, and does anyone know what the group rates are?

You'll need to check with the specific cruiseline and have a good travel agent that does groups. I know some need 8 cabins to qualify for a free one. Be sure to check with the t/a about group space he/she already has.

My t/a just quoted me group rates for a 4-26-09 on the valor. His agency is going to reserve 8 cabins. If my group takes at least 2 of them we get the group rate, which is $100. lower than the rate quoted me by both Carnival and another travel agency for an individual booking. If my group takes at least 5 cabins we also get a $100 shipboard cabin credit, per cabin, plus a box of chocolates. My advice , get a good t/a who will get a group rate for you.

The rebate or free berths vary by cruise line and even by sailing.

The standard is the equivalent of 1 free berth (not cabin) for every 8 cabins double occupancy. If there are singles booking their own cabin, that doesn't generally count towards the free berths.

But.. there are sometimes discounted sailings... if they aren't selling well, where you can get them for five cabins booked.

As others have suggested.. find yourself a great travel agent who books a lot of group cruises!!
