I may have spoken too soon. The original news did say carnival and now the news out is saying in the last line the settlement does NOT involve carnival... ok hit me....
OP, don't feel bad. I think it is coming -- RCL's official announcement is Tuesday -- I expect Carnival to follow suit. Your link actually quotes the AG -- I do not think he misspoke, but maybe the line does not want it revealed until they are ready to announce it.
Thanks to all who wrote the FL AG! One has to wonder if the lawyers who were running ads for plaintiffs for a class action suit on the contract breach pushed things a bit?
On Monday night, a Carnival Corp. spokesman told Seatrade Insider his company is in discussions with the Attorney General’s office but had not reached a settlement.
Last night in one of the press releases, it said Carnival could not be reached for comment, but now this seems to be saying someone from Carnival did comment.
All quite confusing to see the news and then see it dissapear.
sorry again folks. I swear the news I read said Carnival and then it didnt. I did get suspicious when the news didnt show as stock news after I started to dig when folks said they couldnt see Carnival's name on my link. I did try and dig thru stuff last night when my link to the Carnival's news quite working. I apologize. maybe one of the mods can just delete this whole thread .....thanks
I was hit with this surcharge after we placed our reservation. My cruise leaves on Saturday... wonder if we can get a reimbursement in time for the cruise? An extra massage sounds wonderful 8)
It may only be a matter of time before we hear that CCL is doing the same thing, but for now, this article seems to contain some 'irrational exhuberence'.
I do think it is coming -- I don't think the Fl AG would misspeak, but it looks like they have not come to agreement, yet. "irrational exuberance" is probably right. OP, Carnival was there, and it did disappear as outlets corrected the story.
Folks have been saying today or tomorrow -- got my fingers crossed for all Carnival cruisers. If it does not come soon, and if you did not contact the FL AG about the injustice of charging booked and fully paid customers the additional charge, in derogation of what I understand your contract read prior to Nov 7th, then you will need to get that job done.
I have 3 upcoming cruises that were "on deposit" before they announced the fuel surcharge. It would mean $240 for me so sure hope CCL does the right thing also
We were on one of the first cruies's hit with the fuel surchage since we sailed on February 3. We were already paid in full when the annoucement came out, and were forced to pony up the extra dough to be able to cruise. I would love to get my money back on the fuel surcharge. Do we need to contact an attorney in Florida or will Carnival automatticly reimburse me if they do decide to refund all these fuel surcharges?

This whole fuel surcharge is a bunch of bull. They hit me with this AFTER I booked. Why not simply charge more for the cruise?
They already are charging more. I started checking prices for 2009...they are up considerably from what I'd booked at in the past. Other cruiselines seem to have gone up in price as well.

We cruised on Feb 11th on the Holiday and were already paid in full and had to ante up another $50 also. It would be nice for them to automaticaly refund our $50.
Today from the Attorney General,s office.Rcl and Celebrity agreed to refund. The settlements will serve as a model for the rest of the cruise line industry and the Attorney General expressed his expectation that the other companies would follow suit.If this is like the airline industry I would think that Carnival would follow suit from a competitive situation.Time will tell and keeping my fingers crossed as we are booked on 49 day 3 segment arround South America on new Splendor in Jan.

As of today, I still have a surcharge... The prices have absolutely gone up for next year and beyond. I have a feeling the prices of cruises will still go up even higher with the prices of barrels of oil each day going higher. I think if you want a decent price for an upcoming cruise then you should book sooner then later. Carnival is currently pricing out some of their Carribean cruises to as late as Spring 2010.
I talked with Carnival on Friday the 14th and was told that they have a meeting scheduled for Monday the 17th to discuss if they will give the refund and how they will go about it. We don't sail until August so that gives us plenty of time. With 2 rooms booked I could use the $140. That's another chance to do some more diving.
We cruise in April were paid up a year in advance & they added the fuel charge way later on so I sent in an entertainment coupon for one hundred dollars off the cruise and they honored it so it beat them out of the money for the fuel.
