Default Luggage tags

What's with the luggage tags? How are you suppose to attach them? Am I missing something here? The old ones had a nice bungy string on them. Thanks for your input. I am hoping I am not just being stupid.

More Carnival "Progress". My method is to laminate using clear boxing tape, punch hole in tag and attatch with a plastic tie.

you fold it like it says on the print out, then you wrap it around your handle and staple the two ends together.

The paper is too flimsy to stay on well with the way they handle the baggage. I found the shipping tape put over the paper ( sort of like laminating) really makes the tag stronger. I use the zip ties they sell in the hardware sections to attach them to my luggage handles.

I work in a file room and I have a box or two of somewhat unneeded clear label covers. I took some and used them to laminate the paper tags! I think I used six or so per tag and it worked better than the attempt with packing tape, which didn't work so well. I plan on using them again when I go in September they worked so well... 8)

If I decided not to print out my documents from my PC, how soon before the cruise will my packet come in the mail?
We are cruising on May 11

If I were to try to look for these clear lables in a store, what would they be called?

Any other ideas to make the luggage tags stronger???

Thank you
Darlene

Lots of good ideas here today. We printed ours out on card stock. They held up fairly well, but may try some of the homemade laminating tips the others have mentioned.

We are cruising on April 26 and we were told we would receive our package about 30 days or two weeks before. That is the usual time we received them on other cruises we went on.

We only have been on three other cruises but everytime we have received our ticket package the tags were included in the envelope. Is this printing out the tags something new if you are getting paper documentation delivered to your home?

We just received our latest cruise docs over the weekend. We DID NOT have the little colored tags with the string. We had paper luggage tags in the booklet.

If you want to download your tags from Carnival's site - DO NOT do this before you get your docs in the mail, or you will not receive them. You will be required to download them on line.

Our TA is now telling me that if you even view your docs on line you will have to download them, or your TA will. Carnival will not send out the booklet.

After you get your booklet, you can then go online and print out the tags, but I would suggest printing them on heavy cardstock paper and laminating or using the heavy tape suggestion mentioned in this thread.

If you let carnival send you your documents you will have them
3 to 4 weeks before your cruise.
I am having mine sent to my TA and then we pick them up there.
She told me yesterday mine will be in next week. I leave on
april 26th on the Liberty. Thats 3 weeks before I go.
That way you have your luggage tags that you can put all your info
on and will be color coated for floor you are on and then you dont
have to waste your ink.
Nice small package from Carnival.

I guess the old tags and string were much too archaic for Carnival. So in keeping in line with technology they decide that paper tags are better. How the hell do they think that? Its all about saving a buck. I bet the on board crew gets a lot more phone calls from people who havent received their bags because the tags fell off. On my last cruise there was a line of people at the front desk of the hotel the morning of sailing asking to borrow a stapler. If you fly I wouldnt recommend attaching them at that point. I wouldnt be surprised that a stapler is considered a weapon on planes these days. What a hassle and what a cheap thing for Carnival to do!!

We sail on April 14 and our docs came in to the TA's office last week. We are normally told about two weeks before sail date, but it has been our experience that they come in about 4 weeks prior to sail date.

One thing that I always do before we sail or fly is to make up a little info card that is about post card size and on a bright color paper. I put a copy of this card inside every piece of luggage, my camera bag, carry-on, billfold, purse, computer bag etc. If the luggage gets lost or the luggage tags lost, anyone can look inside and get this info. I include my name and cell number. I don't include my home number or address, which would alert potential burglars. I include my itinerary, ship name, cabin number and flight numbers and dates.

I leave a copy of the front page our our passports with a family member and even leave one in our safe at work in case I cannot reach them. This can be faxed to us if lost and would assist us in getting replacements from an embassy if needed. I saw a recent tip in my travel magazines to scan the entire passport into your laptop and save it as well, if you plan to carry a laptop with you. I plan on doing this anyway, just to have it saved in case of loss or damage to the passport.

Okay this is what we did and it worked really well. We fly in one day before our cruise. Below is what we did:

1. Take the airline tags off your bags.
2. Lay the Carnival paper tag face up
3. Take a roll of packing tape (box tape whatever you call it)
4. Cut a big enough piece to hang over the end of the Carnival luggage tag
5. Place that piece of tape so that 1/2 an inch hangs over the edge and it covers the ends by about 1 inch.
6. Do the same to the other side.
7. Place the tag in your luggage handle and fold it over just like an airline luggage tag.

This is actually sturdier than I thought it would be and very simple to do. Also, half a roll of tape will do many tags and doesn't take up much room in a suitcase!! Good luck!

I just waited until I got to the pier and the luggage handlers had a basket full of tags with strings. I just filled them out there and attached them to my luggage.

Hi
You should get your packet from Carnival or your travel agent
2 to 3 weeks before you go.

Actually we were surprised to get the package today. We hate the new paper luggage tags. The colored ones were nicer.

Yesterday I took self sticking laminating sheets I purchased in KMart and placed the cheap paper luggage tags between them and cut them to size. I then took a hole puncher and punched a center hole which I put a plastic mechanics cable tie through and hung it on my luggage. Its real strong and will not be ripped off.

Mine came right at 2 weeks out. They arrived at the travel agency on 28 March for 13 April sailing.
Be prepared for a disappointment with the tags provided in the packet.

Unless they have changed this as well, you can go to the lobby area near the purser's desk and look for a bin of extra luggage tags in all the colors related to the deck you are on. They normally put these out near the end of the cruise for passengers to use to check additional luggage and for luggage with lost tags.

I like these better for scrapbook purposes as well.

I printed my tags from my computer. I folded them as instructed and attached them to the handles of my liggage with a staple. I did not laminate them or reinforce them in any way. They did not tear off and were still in great condition when I removed them the day I packed to leave the ship.

For the record, I did my own laminating today. Found self adhesive ones at Wally World. ( That's WalMark for those who don't understand Southern colloquialism).
They should work out just great!

You are my new Super Hero

I had no idea where to look for the self laminating sheets.
Wal-Mart (Wally World) is my favorite place. My husband will crindge if he finds out I HAVE to go there I can never leave with what I went in there for

I also just love the idea that you will not dress casual for the formal dinners. I will not either Neither will my husband or the people in my group

Your posts are very informative and so fun to read.

Thanks..Darlene..I enjoy hearing from you as well. It's good to know you and your husband will be dressing up for your cruise as well. Even on casual nights, I still will wear a tie and coat. Formal nights is the only time(except for funerals ) when I can don my black suit. The bow tie exist Solely for cruises.
Shopping is the same with me...go for a gallon of milk and leave with a basketful of junk.
