Default What side of the ship will face the port?

I'm thinking the port side faces the port, in port, but a former sailor friend of mine tells me that's not necessarily the case.

That's true, it's not always the case. It can vary port to port, and even cruise to cruise, depending on when the ship arrives, other ships in port, etc.

Very true Kuki. I've noticed that even in the port of Tampa, sometimes the ships are pulled in bow first, other times stern first, so I certainly wouldn't book a certain cabin, with that priority in mind.

I was told when I was booking the Glory for this April cruise that it varied and depended on how many ships were already docked. The rep said we could end on either side of the port.

Being an old Airforce person I don't know port from starboard. What I do know is that we have had our best luck when facing towards the front of the ship booking rooms on the left hand side of the ship. For us that side of the ship has been dock side the most.

Airforce we also have always booked the left hand side and have always had good luck docking also. I hope this happens on this upcoming cruise we are taking but if it doesn't oh well I will be happy just being on vacation and away from work..

I have a pic somewhere in my collection of the Sensation and Imagination sitting in the Port of Miami next to each other bow to bow at the same peir.

For this to happen they had to be able to load from either side of the ship.

Just a silly question but what does it matter what side your room is on?
