Default The Love Boat

Hey baby boomers! "The Love Boat" Season One was just recently released on DVD. I have no doubt it's what inspired many of us to go on a cruise (instead of a land-based vacation) years ago, then we got hooked! Oh yes! It's Saturday night! Time to pop some popcorn, grab a cold soda, and spend an hour with Capt. Stubing, Julie, Gopher, Isaac, and Doc

It's about time! I grew up watching The Love Boat, and yes, it's totally responsible for my longtime desire to go on a cruise (which I will finally do this September).

"Love, exciting and new,
Come aboard.
We're expecting you.
Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow,
it floats back to you.

The Love Boat
soon will be making another run.
The Love Boat promises something for everyone.
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.

Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.

It's Looooove!
Welcome aboard - It's Looooove!"

actually it reminds me when I was a teenager and since it came on saturday night, it meant that I was home and did not have a date, because my parents didn't allow me to drive or own a car

I never connected the dots that perhaps one day I would be cruising..I just like watching Issac trying to find love with Lola Falana

They have been playing part of the song on the radio lately(oldies station). The artist that is famous for singing it on the show is Jack Jones. He is going to be putting on a concert this weekend in Wichita. I'll pass

Just kinda ODD

Abaco Angie;

Kinda what I was thinking when I heard the ad for his show. Guess the royalties for the Love Boat theme song aren't that great anymore.

I remember watching it as a wee lass in the 70's. I was eight when it started and it was one of the regular programs we used to watch (along with Knots Landing, Dallas, Dynasty, St. Elsewhere, and more..). Natrually, these were the days of 13 channels, of which you got regular programming on 8 or 9 of the 13.....

I went to Walmart yesterday, the usual trip. I went to the DVD section and found it.....Yes, I bought it, I didn't just look at it. I remember watching it and wanting to cruise because it looked like so much fun. Alas, from the time I was 3 or 4 to 18+ my parents idea of a family holiday was getting in the motorhome (24 foot Corsair Bendix--white with green accents) and hitching the boat (post 1981) and going on the obligatory camping trip from HELL.....First time staying in a hotel and flying on a airplane I was 15 (almost 16). My first REAL vacation where I didn't have to cook, clean, take trash our, and make the beds was at 22, and it was a cruise--finally!!!!!! The sad part was it took another 15 years to afford to take another holiday. Sadly, I didn't even have enough money left over to get a bus ticket to Calgary (3.5 hours South)!!!!!

Now I am admitted cruise junkie who has enough money in the bank (plus monthly savings) to take six more cruises (two a year) before I have to cut back to one a year (but I'll be a VIP by then).

Yep...It inspired me as well. I'm sure it has generate business for the cruise industry, but I wonder just how many new cruisers are disappointed that real ships are a bit different.
1) very few singles
2) very few hook-ups
3) 3,000 guest as opposed to a few hundred from TV
4) huge size of ships
5) guest don't mingle with crew much

HEY, give Jack a break! He was born in January, 1938, so that makes him 70 years old, and he is still IMO a great singer. A pure voice, and with great vocal control, he does the "Great American Songbook" as well, or better than most any of the greats. (I guess you can tell that I really like the vocal talents of Mr. Jones) 8) In any case, he still sells out all of his concerts, and where would we be without the great song "Love Boat"?
