U.S. Tourist falls to Death on Zip Line

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras - A U.S. woman fell 65 feet to her death during a zip line ride through the jungle on the Caribbean island of Roatan, police said Thursday. Barbara Sue Fojtasek, 44, was riding along a steel wire hung between trees in the jungle when a harness holding her apparently broke on Tuesday, Honduran police said in a news release. Fojtasek was taken to a private clinic on the island, then transferred to a hospital in the mainland city of San Pedro Sula, where she died on Wednesday. Fojtasek had arrived in Roatan a week ago from Texas, said police, who did not identify her hometown or state. Authorities said they are investigating the cause of the fall. |
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the countries we visit on our cruises do not require the same safety standards and inspections that we are accustomed to at home.

We are all in our mid 50's (4 of us) did a zip line adventure in the Caribbean booked throught the cruise line and had a wonderful The precautions with the company were impressive. They had 2 lines going across in case one broke. The safety hardness also had 2 sets of security belts. I was pleasantly surprised about the equipment. Security was foremost in the guides minds. Another reason for booking with the cruise lines since they inspect and take responsibilty.
