Been hearing a lot about John Heald and everybody raves about this guy. People seem to book their cruises based on his schedule. Ive never been on the ship with him as CD but am interested in what the big fuss is about this guy.
We just got off of the Carnival Freedom and had John. He is very witty and funny. He also is very very comfortable doing what he is doing not at all stiff. He worked very long hours. You could see him doing a live show on TV and he would have callers call in and interact with him. He was on the big screen by the pool reading letters people had sent and even found a little girl who was celebrating her birthday while she was on the pool deck. Totally not pre-arranged. He held information sessions in the theater in the mornings about the ports you would be stopping at and what to do there. He would make announcements and work late into the nights. He used humor in what ever he did. Just a great guy!!
He left the Freedom at the end of our cruise (March 23rd) to go to another ship.
We were on 3 cruises with John as CD and he does make a difference. He is more involved with what is happening. Some cruises you never see the CD only at shows. You ask him a question and you will get a answer. Some people don't like him but they don't like any CDs. The old saying "to each their own". Hope he still is the CD on the Splendor in Jan. He starts in July. We were on the Blogger cruise in Jan and had a wounderful time.
We have never sailed with him as a CD, but have sailed with him as a passenger on the Imagination. It was a pleasure spending 5 days with he and his wife Heidi.
John found his calling and does it very well. He gives 110% but more importantly he truly appreciates the response he gets from people.
I have sailed with CDs who used to be good, but now are just going through the motions. And you can tell the difference. If John gets tired....he never shows it.
You can just tell that John has one goal (whether as the CD of a ship or just talking on his blog)....to make people as happy and entertained as they can possibly be.
COMPLETES THE FLEET
If it is Carnival and it floats....we have sailed it!
Hubby ... DIAMOND (every ship except the Carnivale)
Me ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale)
20 year old son ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale...he is the only DOUBLE Milestone under the age of 21)
24 year old son ... DIAMOND
Its like he is on the cruise right next to you at all times making sure you are part of the experience. . He always makes announcements letting you know what is going on. He is the only CD i know that makes announcements while the ship is getting underway. He really makes it a unique experience!

I haven't had the pleasure of sailing with John, but I've started reading his blog. He is hilarious! The blog also shows the softer side of his personality. Read a few of his blog entries and you will see what I'm talking about. He has a wonderful way with words.
