Default Anybody getting caught with liquor in their checked luggage/

Wondering if anybody has first hand experience with booze getting confiscated after trying to smuggle it in their checked bags. With todays technology and they ever present desire for every last dollar, can passengers still get away with it? Love to hear some viewpoints!

I have been watching this post for a few days and I keep wondering why no one has written anything?

Is it because no has been caught or is it because no one wants to tell?

I am just as curious about this as I see so many others are also by how many have viewed and not said anything....

I have seen it being confiscated, and to save a few bucks, I wouldn't risk the embarrassment, or the ruined clothes, if anything broke....jmho:)

Oh you won't get busted at all. They don't care. I bring champagne and whatever bottles I want. If you leave it out, they will put it in an ice bucket for you. 8)

I guess the crew was thursty.

I don't know first hand about taking booze on board. We use to be permitted to do it a few years ago.Things weren't as strict.

I have heard that putting it in checked bags will get it on board the ship????

Okay, my sister and I did this...
1 bottle of vodka in her suitcase...
1 12pk of beer in my suitcase...
we checked our luggage and when it arrived... we still had both the beer and the vodka.
In addition, our room steward brought me a bucket of ice for my beer (fridge wasn't that cold) everyday.

We don't drink wine and we don't buy expensive booze, so if they took it, it wasn't a big deal, and I certainly wouldn't hold it again Carnival for upholding the rules.

I never heard anyone say that their room steward took anything or even reported them for having it.

Iwas just the check in crew....if you had it in the Carry on...not the checked baggage...for what I am to understand.

You must have been hanging around where they screen baggages to see them confiscated first hand!! (OP was asking about checked luggage).

I haven't had any taken first hand but I have heard of friends who saw liquor taken out of luggage in Miami.

I just came back from my 1st cruise on the Carnival Elation out of San Diego, Ca. I had a big bottle of Captain Morgan Rum in my luggage and it got through without a problem. I wrapped it in between a towel and one of my jackets. My travel agent said even if Customs were to find a bottle of alcohol in your luggage, the worst that can happen is they would ask you to either take it back to your vehicle or throw it away for you. Drinks are not cheap on the ship, and whatever money I saved by taking my own bottle went straight to the slot machines anyway. Either way it was the best vacation I've ever been on so far and I can hardly wait to go again. Enjoy!!

We just got off the Liberty. We put a bottle of wine and champagne in our carry on. Didn't hide it. Also a pack of water. They never said anything, but I think you are allowed a bottle of wine, some pop and water??? Not sure though. Wish I would have taken some ginger ale. We had some rough waters!! :o

DW had a bottle of wine taken from her checked bag this month in Galveston. There was a note in the bag when she opened it. We claimed it the following Sunday upon debarkation.

So it does happen

i've gone thru some hard brained schemes to get booze on board, from emptying a dark brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide (washing it ofcourse) to put my vodka in, but then i also took 2 small bottles of rum. On both cruises i took the rum (actually the same 2 bottles of rum,,,,,alcoholic i aint lol) to tell the truth, i had a whopping ONE DRINK from all that alcohol i snuck on board that i made myself total on both cruises.

I wont be taking more with me, i just dont drink nuff to need it and i enjoy getting them at the bar...

My favorite drink ever is on carnival...Frozen mango peach daquari...omg yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmo

A couple of weeks on the Celebration, my daughter had her 3 cans of Pepsi taken from her that was in her backpack but her husband got by with his dozen plus pony bottles that was in his suitcase. Good trade.

Pinoy, you are right, this was in Boston, as we came up the escalator, they were removing 'the stash' from carry-ons, marking the bottles with passenger's names and bringing it, who knows where..protests could be heard;)

But, I just cannot see packing booze in checked luggage, the way it gets tossed around, all the clothes could smell like pinot;):)

Why would they take the Pepsi? You are allowed a "reasonable" amount of water and soft drinks. We have taken a rolling ice chest with 12 cans of soft drinks and some bottled water and never had a problem.

I am wondering though about bringing on glass bottles of beverages. I am almost addicted to the new Fuze Slenderize drink, but it comes only in glass bottles. If I can carry on a bottle of wine, I wonder if I can carry this on.

In lots of Carnival cruises nothing ever confiscated from CHECKED luggage. No need to disguise it, either. Just pack it well.

Can they detect it? Of course they can. They choose to ignore (for now).

NCL is pretty good at finding undisguised booze containers.

Nothing But Blue Skies, I don't know why, but they did. Maybe they didn't like my daughter's toenail polish.......

Could 3 people bring 1 wine box in their carryon?

Also can you buy 1 soda card and get 3 drinks at a time on it?

Irishlass:
After seeing a comerical on TV last night about wine in a box, I thought the same thing

I do doubt it though. It just seems like too good to believe if they would.

When we sailed out of Miami on the Triump last summer, one member of our group walked through the checkin line pulling a cooler full of liquor. We all stood back and watched knowing it would be taken. For some unknow reason no one said anything to him. He walked right through everything and right onto the ship. Mind you I am not talking about a little cooler. I am talking about a good size cooler on wheels. When I find the picture of him coming on board I will post it up. I guess some people are just lucky. I would have been scared to death.

Our group of 30 adults talked for months on how to smuggle booze onboard the Destiny. Some tried to hide it, others didn't. Tell ya the truth, none of us are big drinkers, just did it to see what would happen. As it turned out, only one of our group got anything confiscated, probably because he showed up at check-in about half drunk. I think the time of year and age group has a lot to do with losing your booze. During Spring break and summer cruises, the cruise line has to control how much booze is inhaled by certain age groups. I know of one guy who had over one hundred of those airline size bottles scattered through his luggage, and was not even given a second glance. Not being a big drinker, I then had to carry it back home with me. I ended up buying most of my drinks, cause I didn't take any of the stash outside the cabin. Good Luck

Just came off the Triumph Sat. My son-in-law got one small bottle aboard in his checked but got caught in both attempts to carry a small amount on at the ports. Had to check one and discard one as he had poured it into a water bottle. I did not sense much humor when the security lady was talking to him. My coworker and her daughter both got caught last season with bottles in their checked (cannot remember if Carnival or not) and has said repeatedly that she was so emabarassed she will never try it again. I guess the cost of a beer or drink is not so high on a ship it would ever make my decision if I had one or not but then I have never thought about trying to sneak a jug or a 12 pack into my favorite supper spot.
