Carnival Announces Voluntary Fuel Surcharge Refund
Carnival Corporation & plc has announced a voluntary refund of the company's fuel supplement for applicable U.S. bookings that were made prior to November 7, 2007 under an agreement with the Florida Attorney General's Office. The fuel supplement, announced November 7, 2007, was applied to all U.S. bookings for voyages departing on or after February 1, 2008 for cruises on Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and The Yachts of Seabourn.
The company will now refund the fuel supplement for those guests who were already booked at the time the supplement was announced. Refunds for affected guests will be implemented based on cruise departure date according to the following schedule:
For cruises departing on or prior to April 4, 2008, guests will receive a refund in the same form they used to purchase their cruise;
For cruises departing from April 5, 2008 through June 23, 2008, guests will receive an on-board credit;
For cruises departing on or after June 24, 2008, guests' bookings will be adjusted to eliminate the fuel supplement.
The fuel supplement remains in effect for all bookings made on or after November 7, 2007. The $5 per person per day fuel supplement applies only to the first and second guests in a stateroom and will not exceed $70 per person per voyage. Also, at the time the fuel supplement was announced, travel agents whose clients had existing reservations were offered $10 per booking in administrative compensation for notifying those clients of the supplement and that compensation will continue to be provided.

We read that also in todays paper and are crusing out on April 26. That 70.00 will look good applied to our on board credit. Has anyone tried calling Carnival yet to see if the on board credit has applied to the cruise credit yet? I was going to call but I figured wait a few days since I just saw it in todays paper.

IF you booked this cruise before Nov 7, 2007....you should find a $50.00 OBC when you arrive.
We sailed on the Imagination on a back to back. The 1st one was Jan 28th so there was no charge...the second one was Feb 2 and there was a charge...so we will see that $50.00 credited to our credit card.
BTW WE LOVED THE IMAGINATION!!! You will have a WONDERFUL time!

I knew Carnival would buckle under the pressure...it was just a matter of when. I was one who filed a complaint with the FL AG. We don't mind the fuel surcharge but not applied after the cruises were deposited. For us, it makes a $170 difference!
I called during my lunch break yesterday and the Carnival rep said and it was not applied yet to our on board credit. She kind of acted like she didn't know much about what I was asking about.
popsec:
I see you are on a Carnival ship. When is your cruise?
You said in this thread that you are getting back $170.00. Why that amount?
I did posts in the thread that we paid $35.00 per person, so we are only expecting to get $35.00 per person as OBC.

We're doing a B2B on the Imagination in a couple weeks so it was $50 for each of those and we're going on the Legend in Sept and it was $70 for that........it adds up!
My travel agent told me i wasnt entitled to the fuel charge refund because my deposit was paid off in december. We gave our initial deposite in october and we were given a booking number at that time. She told us we had until december to pay the deposit and march 31 to make our final payment. We sail in July. My question is were we booked before nov. 7. any clarification you could give me will be truly appreciated.
When I called carnival, they told me that whatever payment plan I had with the travel agent has nothing to do with them. But that if we gave the travel agent a deposit in october and she gave us a booking # that day, then thats the day we were booked. She couldnt give me any info about my booking because i didnt book the cruise through them. I then called travel agent she wasnt there so i asked the reception if she can tell me when i booked my cruise and she told me 10/10/2007.
I called again to check on our credit on the account and they still acted like they didn't know what I was talking about at the end of the conversation when I asked her are we also getting a refund for the gas. The rep paused and said after a bit of silence they didn't start giving it back yet. I said to her we cruise in 22 days will it be on our sign and sail and she said she couldn't answer me on that yet as she didn't know. I booked and paid in full a year ago through Carnival not a travel agent and I still can't get a direct answer. Sounds like it will be a slow process giving it back. Anyone cruising soon other than me call Carnival yet on the matter?
We booked last May and didn't pay off the balance until January. We do not have a TA. We are working with a Vacation Planner with Carnival. She told me last week that we would be getting back the money for the Fuel Suppliment.
I received an email from Carnival as an formal letter yesterday stating that we would get OBC applied to the Sail and Sign card.
I just spoke to a Carnival rep about the refund - He told me they have over 1 million people to rebate and it would take some time. He said it could take up to 2 months or longer but there was no plan in place.
Seems very strange there is no quicker way to refund. Its my belief they will hold on to our money as long as they can to earn the interest and spread across a couple of Business quarters so tehy don't blow there earnings.
1 Million X $35 is $35 Million X 3% is $1,050,000 interest just for holding our money for a year..
Pretty good deal..

Didn't it look like they were going to apply an OBC to everyone who will be sailing soon? That sure looked like that to me
Man, I sure hope they apply it to my cruise in May. That is what they lead me to believe. I was counting on having the extra money for drinks and stuff
I have just received an email from my Carnival Vacation Planner.
She told me that it will take 3 weeks to apply the refund to our OBC(My Sail and Sign Card). It will be there for when we cruise in a month and 6 days.
