Airtran $10.00 for 2nd bag, but I have a question?
I posted this before, except I didn't think of this and I hope someone can answer this for me?
This new charge goes into effect I think May 15? We have been paid in full since March and will be leaving on May 11. We won't pay for the second bag until we return on May 18.
Now, since we are paid in full before this and won't be home until that date, do you think we will be charged for the second bag on our return flight?
$10 is not as bad as some airlines that are charging $25 per bag. Maybe, you won't get charged at all. I am used to bringing a collapsed softside bag in my suitcase for souvenirs: I got a small carpet in Turkey last year
I would almost guarantee it. Because if you remember you purchase those flights in "segments". We are using USA3000 out of Pittsburgh and they just implemented the $25 second bag fee eff 5/1. I was hoping to use that 2nd bag for my goodies that I buy.
Unless you get a generous agent, I'd say you're going to have to pay the fee. Luckily, AirTran has the lowest of any other airlines implementing these charges. But its worth mentioning to the agent at check-in that you booked prior to the announcement and flew the outbound before it became effective. You never know!
Look on the bright side though: I read that Ryanair of Europe will now be charging approx $75 for ONE bag! That makes the $10 for the second bag on AirTran seem like a gift! However, the fares at Ryanair are also dirt cheap and you get what you pay for

yep, plan on being charged..also ask them if your bag fails to arrive with you, do they give you a full refund plus a $10 credit for your next trip on them

Yes, you are so right! It is lower than the rest so far.
Since we booked our flight as a group, I have to call them to let then know that all of us are still going. I will ask that question when I call.

Don't forget each bag has a weight limit. I have seen people have to pay extra because of the weight. At only $10 two bags might be a better deal if your baggage is overweight.

Believe me...I have passed that on to the rest of my group. So far I am under weight (luggage only) ha ha ha..
I am still going to take 1 more extra bag. Can never tell what I may HAVE to buy on port
You could always work it that everyone in your group has a carry on and one checked baggage so that for those that dont end up with one or the other, have them "make up" for those that do have the 2nd bag.
Atleast it is pretty cheap considering the initial start of USA3000's fee of $25.
Not to sound gloom & doomish but I think the extra 10 bucks a bag will be the last of our worries soon with the airlines. I've seen several airline analysts inteviewed lately that agree that the super cheap fare days are about to come to an end. The airlines are reporting losses all over the place and with the mergers that isn't going to be good for us price wise.

It will eventually end up similar to the limited amount of oil companies we now have........then control the flight prices will be handled just like the gas prices. Then and only then if the gas prices stabilized we will see a start back of all these exceptional discount airlines.
