Default Has anyone been on the Glory & sailed out of Port Canave

I am checking cruises and I noticed that there is a cruise on the Glory, which sails from the Port of Canaveral in Orlando.
I wanted to know any information that you may have?

Which airport would you fly into/out of?
Distance from the airport to this Port?

Thank you
Darlene

Darlene,
You would fly into Orlando (MCO) but the port is 55 miles away in Port Canaveral next to Cocoa Beach. Since I went to high school there we rent a car from Budget and it is less than an hour drive there. There are plenty of hotels there and in Cocoa Beach on A1A. Many cruisers stay at the Radisson at the Port. We have stayed there and also The Hampton Inn about 2 miles down on A1A. The Budget return is less than a mile from the port and they have a free shuttle. Some ppl on our cruise stayed overnight in Orlando and took their hotel shuttle back to the airport on cruise morning to catch the ship's transfer. Have fun planning!

I cruised out of this port and loved it. I didnt do Glory, admit to cruising on another cruiseline. We stayed at the Radisson for their online hot rate of $99. They have a free shuttle to the port and there is a McDonalds right across the street. We loved the sleep number beds and the old timey Florida feel with the pink stucco buildings. There are lots of cheaper rates on hotwire since you dont need the free parking. (check out better bidding of course before buying on hotwire).

Its a nice quiet port and you can look down the street and see your ship sitting there the morning of your cruise if you are close. Cocoa Beach has the better beach and is only 5 miles down the road and most hotels you can get a shuttle for about $4 pp.

Hi Darlene:
Yep, the others are correct. Port Canaveral is a really good port (second only to Tampa IMO), and very easy to get into and out of. Glory is a "Conquest" class ship,,,,very nice, good crew, best food in the entire Carnival fleet IMO, and super entertainment. I'd highly recommend it, and as a matter of fact, the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I sail "Glory" in just about 3 weeks. Come on along,,,,we'll have a great time!

I sailed the Glory 2 weeks ago and had a blast. Its easy to get in and out of and smooth sailing is the theme of the day. We rented a car from MCO the day before so we could check the sights in Orlando. We stayed at La Quinta and in the morning we drove to Port Canaveral and dropped off the car at Hertz about a mile from the port. The shuttled us right to the front door of the cruise terminal and we were in. The upside of car renting is it was actually cheaper than the Carnival bus and we did it on our schedule. If you have 3 or 4 people in your group its even a better cost savings. Taking the bus back to MCO is much easier after your cruise since its right there and you dont have to deal with anything with the exception of huge lines at the airport. Dont forget that Disney built the city of Orlando!

Thank you everyone...this is a hugh help!

For our cruise in 6 days, there are 26 of us. If we get that many for this cruise, we will need to rent a van like we are now.

The hotel we are staying in on Saturday will accomodate 4 in a room, so that is what we will look for the next time also.

We have time, so I will be look for the great deals for the next time too

MCO stands for McCoy/Orlando. The airport in Orlando was, and is named McCoy Field, or McCoy Airport. No,,,,It does NOT stand for "Mickeys Corporate Office".

There are two web cams at Port Canaveral that we enjoyed watching in the weeks leading up to our cruise aboard the Glory ( June, 2006 ). We were able to see her arrive and depart each Saturday, and that certainly added to our anticipation of the trip! One of the web cams actually allowed you to zoom in and out as well as move the camera up/down/sideways. Googling "Port Canaveral web cam" would probably get you to the website. As for the Glory, it was our first cruise and we loved her! Embarkation was a breeze!

We are cruising on the Glory 6-21. We booked a room at the Raddison at the Port. (The closest hotel to the port.) They had a special, room for a night and parking for the duration of the cruise. I think it was $120. Parking at the port is $15 a day if I am not mistaken. They have a shuttle you schedule for embarkation, and they said they run every 15 minutes when the ship returns. I will double check that for sure. Looks like a very nice place also. By the way, my sister was going to rent a 15 passenger van for the trip since there are a few of us, but she said the rental folks said you could not take them to Florida. Might be a NC thing?

To cruise out of Port Canaveral your best bet is to fly into Orlando.
The port is 45 minutes to a hour from the airport.
