Default New Test for dining times/ w Legend.

Beginning with the June 29th, 2008, sailing of the CARNIVAL LEGEND, we will add a new dining option to enhance our already popular Total Choice Dining. As you know, on the Carnival Legend we currently offer our Classic Reserved Dining program: the Main Sitting (1), Second Sitting (3), our Casual Bistro Dining in the Lido restaurant, and the Supper Club.

We will add an Open Sitting dinner option (U) in the main restaurant. Guests selecting the Open Sitting dinner option will have the opportunity to dine in the main restaurant anytime between 5:30PM and 9:30PM. They will be able to pre-reserve their dining time by contacting a special number from their suite or stateroom. Alternatively, they will also be able to walk up to the dining room during those times and request to be seated.
Guests who pre-reserve our Classic Reserved Dining (CRD) options (Main & Second sitting) will not be able to reserve Open Seating times.

HMM,,,sounds just like the dining options that "Princess" offers. I hope it works as well, as lots of folks do like the option of the Personal Choice dining. There are, of course, lots and lots of us who prefer the old standby of a reserved table, and reserved time, and I really like the fact that both groups of people are made very happy by doing both options aboard these great ships. THANKS!

We would love to be able to get a table for two for dinner in the dining room....we've just never asked if it was possible.

I wonder if the Open sitting folks who arrive to be seated will be seated at a table that is in the middle of their dinner, thereby being a bit of an interruption to the evening.

If they do it the same way as "Princess", and all others with open seating, they seat the whole table before starting to take orders, etc. On Princess they will even seat you at a table for four, but not seat anyone else with you if that's what you request. Actually, it works out pretty good.

This sounds like what our Maitre D' on the Fantasy told us they were going to do in the fall after the renovation. I think it is great for Carnival. We like the assigned seating ourselves, but I think a lot of people will take advantage of this.

I am quite sure the walk in seating would be handled in the same manner as the breakfast/lunch seating in the main dining room is done. You are taken to the next available table and might be seated at a table for 4, 6, or 8 people.

Me too Darlene, however on our next cruise, "Glory" it isn't a factor, but the one after that, "Legend" isn't until Halloween, and I've already locked in traditional dining. Sounds like you have your choice to me. Sure hope so!

We were thinking about cruising on the Glory next year also. Are you saying that they are changing the dining on that ship?

I really enjoy the assigned dining on Carnival the way it is right now, because we like to have time to meet new people and not have a new group of tablemates each night. We also like to get to know our waitstaff and like the fact that they remember your preferences.

But, that is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream, so everyone can get what they like best.

I couldn't have said it better

I also love to meet new people. What a great way to do this?

As long as they keep the Classic Dining program they can do whatever. We like being with the same waiters every night. Just part of the cruise with us. We did the freestyle on NCL and did not care for it. To each their own, Should make some people happy. 8)

Yes, I agree with you it may make some happy. I like having the same waiter every night. So I too hope they keep the Classic Dining.

From what our Maitre D' told us they do plan on having one dining room for Classic dining and one for open dining. I know several people whose first cruises were with Carnival and started out with the Classic dining associated with Carnival. Then they tried the other lines that had the open seating dining and they all said they hated it. I have only done Carnival so I can't really compare, but I am pleased with the way they have always done their evening dining in the main dining rooms.

This makes me wonder if all of us who prefer Carnival's current dining arrangement took our first cruises with Carnival. Maybe we are a little jaded in our thinking that things should be the same as our first cruise.
