I booked a couple of weeks ago for the Feb. 1st. sailing on the Conquest. I used the Mil. discount through a TA, and saved about $150 over my PVP with Carnival. Need to book soon, as they have a limited number of Mil. discounts available.

Can't hurt to call Carnival and ask for it. Last time they gave offered it to me without my request. They said it was cheaper than the past guest discount. I'd call them if I were you...or have the travel agent do so.

I booked mine for the Feb 11, 09 sailing (although I may now have to change it) and had no problem geting the military discount. I also use a TA, but you should be able to get the same directly through Carnival.
The military discount changes from day to day, and from ship to ship depending on cabin, supply, and demand. If you have a good TA or PVP, they will watch whatever ship, and sailing you're interested in, and advise, or lock in when the military discount is available. I've used the military discount for the last 10 or 12 cruises we've taken aboard Carnival. It, in my opinion, is GREAT!
We get great Military discount rates from Interliner.com. It is for military AND their families. The rates are normally about 3 or 4 months out. We had booked a cruise a year in advance with a TA then these rates come out and we had to cancel then rebook with Interliner saving us $800 each.

I got a military discount on Holiday back in February ... and the thing about it was that I have not been in service for about 15 years! I did not even ask for it, assuming that was meant for active duty folks. The PVP asked me to fax him a copy of my DD 214 and they honored the discount.
By the way, thanks to you folks who served. It is nice that Carnival continues to offer some small benefit for your service to the country.
And the PVP told me the military discount is better than the past guest discount.

I went thru Carnival and I was asked if I am a veteran. I faxed my DD-214 and they gave me a really nice discount on the Valor for Sept. Booked in Arpil. So the further out you book the better the discount. As stated eariler Carnival has only a few of the discounts. Take advantage if you are a vet. Thanks for serving.

Is the military discount less or greater than the senior discount? I assume the senior discount is always available, but does it also very based on cabin availability?
I have used the Mil. discount on our last three cruises. It is a much greater than the Sr. discount. The higher the cost of the cabin the greater the discount. I am sure it will vary as to when you book, and how well the sail date is selling. It seems the further out you book the better the prices. We usually book a year in advance if at all possible.

Does anyone know if a military discount applies for the Conquest sailings in Feb. '09? Thanks
The Military discount applies to all of Carnival's cruises.
If you are a widow of a Military person, it also applies to you. I just found that out today.
Carnival gives the military discount to active duty, reserves, national guard, retired and former military with a honorable discharge. Some times they will let you book more than one room at that discount. The last time when we booked we were allowed 3 rooms at the discounted rate so that we could take family and friends. It is worth a call to Carnival to see what military discounts are available. like someone said earlier it changes day to day.
You are all so right. In fact Carnival makes it easier than any other cruise line. Love it. If you are eligible... it sure helps make it affordable.
Carol :-)

I'm surprised by this....I'd always heard that the widow, children etc weren't eligible for the rates unless the military person was booked in the same cabin (or during the friends and family promotion)
I always ask for a Military Discount. Hey the worst they can say is no. Or we do ... but... you need to be active duty. However Carnival recognizes that they spouse gives up quite a lot for their husband or wife to serve for our country and so they offer the discount to all of us as well.
Yeah

Have you ever looked at www.vacationstogo.com? They have GREAT deals on there. Just booked a 5 day cruise and it was a better deal then the military discount from Carnival.
