4 day cruise / formal night

greetings all
Im scheduled to go on a short 4 day cruise ( first one, we have been on many 7 +)
do they have a formal night? which night ?? we like to sit in the dinning room but for a 4 Cruise we were not planning the tux/suit/ gown thing...
will that be a problem? any feedback would be appreciated

Yup they have one "Elegant Night" on a four day cruise. They stopped doing formal night and the dress standards have been relaxed. So all you need is dress slacks, dress shirt, and a sport coat. In fact I was on one of the first cruises with this relaxed standard which just happened April 26, 2008 Here is from the website:

"Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats."

That's right - a 4-night Carnival cruise is not exactly a formal affair. I admit on my last one I saw blue jeans and shorts at dinner in the dining room every night.

I suggest you just try some slacks and collared shirts for the men - shorts, t-shirts or blue jeans not recommended any night in the dining room, though they will still let you in without comment.

One pair of black slacks will get your through every night at dinner.

I really feel that the formal night on a 3-4 day cruise is for pictures only. If passengers weren't dressed up, who would they sell pictures to.
