many of you have indicated that the air fare to New Orleans for Blog2Nola is very high (service to MSY is not back to pre Katrina level plus you are coming during Mardi Gras season)
Melody and I and the rest of the CM'ers that live here, would not want you not to come because of high air fares..You might look at Houston (we would prefer Hobby (HOB) rather then Bush (IAH) because HOB is about an hour closer to get to from New Orleans)...It's about a 6 hour drive from MSY to HOB, but if enough folks can save up to $200 per person round trip, maybe we that live here can figure out some kind of car pool (or we can rent 1-2 passenger vans) and if everyone chips in a few bucks for gas it can come out a win/win
Southwest has great service into HOB and runs periodic sales (you can register for their "ding" specials where they send you an e-mail when they have a sale on the city pairs you input)..their schedule is only out thru october at this point but when it is published thru feb, then maybe you can price shop
Melody has promised to sing any song that you request on the long drive ::
I have to tell you, that you and Mel, have just been so generous with all you have done for us, so far... hotels, fedexing boxes, transportation, etc..
Southern hospitality is alive and well, and, in your hearts...
For us, coming from Boston, I'm not sure it will be easier, or less costly, but, I will certainly check out it, and I surely appreciate the heads up.
Trip, with her book & tea!

of course I haven't ran this past my Baton Rouge Southern Bell yet, but I'm sure she will support me on this effort
sometimes folks forget that Louisiana was impact by TWO hurricanes Katrina and Rita one month apart..Rita did her damage in the western part of the state (on the Texas side) and the long ride from Hobby will show our CM'ers the Rita damage and then the Katrina damage...if we had time we could drive to Mississippi to see that damage
I'm sure we can show a DVD in the van of different accounts of the twin storms to remind folks..or....we could listen to Melody sing for six hours :::: or we could made a "pit" stop at Mehawks house and read his advance copy of his novel and have a pre drive cocktail
Sounds like a plan to me! I'm available for any and ALL activities. Venice, don't worry about volunteering me for anything...I'll help wherever I'm needed! Now my singing might be detrimental to the entire operation!
If you are going to walk on thin ice, you may as well dance!
Gulfport MS is an excellent alternative (forget about going east) and less then 2 hours driving from New Orleans and Delta has good connections and fares thru Atlanta from the east and midwest..thanks for saving us driving time (plus there is a dairy queen on the route )
