I called Carnival last night to book a short cruise for my son and myself. I planned to sale on the Imagination for a 3 nighter to the Bahamas. This is my son's first cruise.
Anyway, when I mentioned that I wanted to book the OV guarantee ($10 more than the inside rate), the pvp immediately offered (and I accepted) an upgrade to a Category 6C. This way we got an assigned cabin on Upper Deck right in the middle of the ship.
I was quite impressed that I got my upgrade right from the back.
I am quite excited to introduce cruising to my son. This will be his first cruise.

They seem to do that readily for past guests on slow selling cruises. We’ve been upgraded 3 times that way, twice on one cruise. We booked a balcony guarantee and were offered a free 2 class upgrade when we booked, then we saw the price drop and called back to get the lower price and they offered us any available balcony cabin. So watch the price and call back if you see it drop.
