I would definitely book a guarantee cabin, especially if it was a balcony guarantee. Even though you are only moved up a deck or two and you may receive a smaller or larger balcony, the cabin is the same. However you may get a 9A or hit the jackpot and get a suite. It's like playing cruise bingo. You have about the same odds.
If it was an inside or an outside and there was a chance of ending up under the galley or next to the anchor then I would think twice about booking a guarantee.

I don't know if it matters how far in advance you book a guarantee. So many things are factored in when they assigned these cabins (about 30 days out) that the actual date of your initial booking will not really matter much. I could be wrong.
I used to book only guarantees. However at this point, I have been on so many cruises that I now know the "good" cabins in my usual category (Cat. 1A). If a "good" cabin is available, I book that specific cabin. If not, then I book a guarantee. There are some Cat. 1A that I don't care for but none that I can't enjoy. After all, it is on the ship.

We did balcony guarantee 8A for the last 7 cruises 3 were upgraded 1 deck 4 were on deck 6. We don't do it anymore some of the cabins were at the front of the ship and we don't care for the front. We picked our cabin for the 3 cruises for 2009. We did not get our cabin number till we got to the ship for 3 of the cruises with guarantee. So sometimes you don't know till you get to the ship. We fell for the wounderfull upgrades you hear about, well they are far and none.
We usually book the cabin we want. I like right near the elevator, so we don't have a long walk to the cabin...I have booked a guarentee in my earlier cruises, and we are doing it on the bloggers cruise, because there are not alot of balconies..but in a balcony guarentee, I would chance it, maybe:):):)

Well after my experience, I was told when I booked the OV guarantee it would be atleast the upper deck 3 or higher and "possible" upgrades.
 I ended up being assigned a cabin on the riveria deck 1. R229 I think. I called the PVP we booked thru and he gave me the BS response which I expected and ended up paying 60 extra to be on the upper deck 3. He gave us U230 on the Fascination. So on that note, I will consider doing a BL guarantee only but NO MORE OV's!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless I get hosed on that and we will book a room per our choice!!!
Go with the guarantee only if you are willing to take the lowest category cabin you booked. In other words if you want to be upgraded to a balcony from an interior - be ready to be satisfied with an interior.

We booked two inside guarantees on Fantasy, and got porthole OV's near the bow [u3 & u12]. We were actually hoping for insides on the Riviera deck so we could test the "less motion low and inside" theory. Be careful what you wish for, you will probably get the opposite ;-)

In March I had a balcony room assigned right above the suites. Primo room. Then I found out the price went down and asked for a credit. They said no but if I went guarantee they could get me the cheaper price. So I gave up my good room to save some dough. 1 week later they assigned me the exact same cabin I orginally had and I saved something like $80. Maybe I just got lucky but the guarantee deal made a believer out of me.

Can I assume that since you've been on the Pride 3 times... you really enjoyed it?
We are going on the Pride for our first 7 day cruise in Aug/Sept. Just wondering what to expect.
Can you tell me, do all the balconies have refridgerators? 8)
