Default Guarantee cabin upgrade

I know upgrade question have been asked, but most of those cases have been people who booked without choosing the cabin they want. I booked a Lido deck cabin and I have noticed that there are still 75% Cat 11 suites left and at least five Cat 12 cabins left. I have to wonder, will Carnival offer those who have selected their cabin an upgrade to a suite (if available) or shall I tell my subconscience to stop dreaming about this at night.

I had a Cat 11 suite and loved it, alas, I can't afford one each and every time!!!! I will try to get one for my 40th birthday cruise next year on the Splendor, but it will cost me dearly, but I am worth it....

Iv heard of very few cases where Carnival reps will call you to upsell. The chances of a free upgrade once you have a cabin are pretty slim.

However, if there are lots available, cant hurt to watch the price, they may throw in a special you can grab. My last cruise had a special rate for seniors for instance?? If you see a price drop on them, call them up and move up yourself.

The upgrade fairy is fickle indeed. We have been upgraded after booking guaratee and also after booking a specific cabin. But, I never, ever count on it. Doesn't happen often.

I was called last week by a Carnival rep. (as well as another person from my roll call.) I did not answer my cell, as I did not know the #) She left a voice mail for me.

I frantically called her back. I was offered a "employee rate" to upgrade form OVG to a cat 11 suite. I was not sure if it was a good deal, so as we spoke, I checked the rate online. It was so I took it.

We are sailing Victory to Canada in a few weeks. It is a bit pricy for a short cruise, but I can drive to the port.

We are traveing with our two DD's, 8 &4. So the extra room will be nice!

I am now platinum on Carnival.

For my next cruise (4 day to Canada), I booked a Cat 1A guarantee. I have now been put into a Cat 6B which is a gigantic upgrade for one person in the cabin. I believe this jump is as a result of my newly crowned platinum status.

I have another cruised booked in October. I have a specific cabin selected. I paid $10 more than cost of a Cat 1A and was given a Cat. 6C. I am toying with the idea of giving it up for a Cat. 6 Guarantee in the hopes of getting a suite. This ship has no balconies.

I have another cruise booked for next May. Again I have selected the Cat 1A with the picture windows. I am not willing to give up this cabin unless I am offered a balcony cabin.

It does happen. I never book a guarantee. Last Dec. we had a balcony on Lido and were upgraded to a suite on Empress at no charge. Bless them.

Being Platinum does not always get you an upgrade. Sometimes you still just get what you pay for. I have had it go both ways.

no such thing as a guarantee upgrade... the guarantee is for the type of room you booked...if you get upgraded consider it a christmas present..

I don't think it guarantees you an upgrade but does it make the chances of getting a better cabin more likely? I am new to this platinum thing.

of course there is. The whole purpose of taking a guarantee is that you are willing to gamble on the hopes of getting an upgrade. Otherwise, why would anyone book a guarantee cabin if they can just book a confirmed cabin in the category they are willing to pay for.

Now, there is no such thing as a "guaranteed" upgrade which is why I will probably not give up my Cat. 6C on the hopes that I get a suite.

I have friend that has always booked guarantee units and has been upgraed at no additional charge. I'm going to try that also and see how it works out. Let us know if you were upgraded and the steps you took.

It was strange. At first I was skeptical. As I spoke with her, I checked the current rate on my computer. I was told a large group cancelled. It was a bout 4 weeks prior to sail date. (We leave on 7/17). As I mentioned, another person from a roll call on anther message board was offered the same. We were the only ones from that roll call.

We are not sure how/why we were picked. She stated again, that this woud be the rate she would pay. It was significantly less than the published rate.

you just contradicted yourself... What i said was there is no guarantee of an upgrade. that term does not exist.. you can book a guarantee cabin which will assure you of getting a room in the category you selected. You may get upgraded if you are lucky but as far as a guarantee goes? No such thing..

We are both wrong. We are using the incorrect spelling to say the same exact thing. There is no such thing as a "guaranted" upgrade. However, when you book a "guarantee" category, you are in the running for a possible upgrade.

Glad we got that straightened out...... now I guess the next question is what incorrect spelling did I use? Maybe you meant terminology.. bottom line you and I are both right not wrong when you say there is no guaranteed upgrade only a guaranteed cabin in the category one selects... whew... lots of discussion over something so trivial huh?

For the $80 cheaper price per person to accept any cabin in a class rather than pick a cabin or deck. (give or take different cruise lengths or base prices)

I doubt I'll get a upgrade, but miracles/dreams do happen!!!!!! I like to think positive and optimistic. Heck, if it doesn't then I'll still have a great time no matter what!!!
