Default Tampa hotels?

I am sure my fried brain has already asked this. But can anyone suggest a hotel near the port of Tampa? Or one near some fun things within walking distance. We fly in the day before. I figure it's getting close so I better hold something.

Thanks for any info

I would also like to know where to stay in Tampa that is close to the port and has a cruise and park program. I did find that the Embassy Suites - Downtown has a cruise package. I don't know the rates. My cruise is so far off I can't even get rates right now. If you find something let me know.

I was also looking at the Embassy Suites. Seems to be very nice and the cruise shuttle package is a good deal.
I will keep my ears and eyes open for other info

Since I live near Tampa, and work over there, I guess I should know this, however, I don't use the hotels so I have an excuse.
I've seen posts that list the Sheraton Riverwalk, as a possibility. I do know that it's right downtown, and is an older building, but I would think that it's probably O.K. Another one mentioned is the Howard Johnson Downtown. Once again, I'm not sure about either of these, but they are both within a mile of the port (probably less) and I've seen others post about these as offering shuttle service to the port. Good luck.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt REgency downtown (2 weeks ago); the flat fee for cab fare to Channelside was very reasonable, it was under $10.00 per person; I can't remember the exact cost but it may have even been as low as $3.00 per person (I think 20 bucks covered four of us and the tip). This is a very nice/clean hotel and believe it or not there is a pool; it is just on the 5th floor.

it is within walking distance to the trolleys (.50 cent) and trams (?? $1.50) that service Channelside and Ybor City; and if you are lucky you may get a room with the view of the port. If you stay there, have the desk clerk go over the trolley/tram route as the valet person gave us wrong directions and we hiked out of our way .

Most of our group will be staying at the Hampton Inn Ybor City in September, the other 3 coouples will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Both hotels offer park and cruise packages and a hot breakfast in the morning. Hampton Inn charged us $99 for the room and $45 for the parking. Holiday Inn Express was $119 for the room and $25 for parking.

I can let you know after the cruise how the hotels were.

I think I am going to stay at the Embassy Suites. Im going to do the cruise special where the take you to the pier and pick you up and take you to the airport.

The roof top pool looks so awesome. Did you go up there?
