Default Movies, or dvds in your cabins?

Howdy All for the BIG city of Houston, TX
Just a couple of questions (Conquest Dec 14th)

Sometimes we just like to chill put in our cabin for a movie

Are there dvd players in a balcony cabin?

Can to borrow or rent dvds from a library on board?

What about movies on the TV in cabins?

thanks debbyedoops

They usually have several free movies on the TV and depending on ship they have pay per view. I too will watch a movie in the cabin and chill out.

We enjoyed Ocean's 13 on HAL from the library. Many movies to choose from there and on the closed circuit system. Our TA assures us that these services are available on almost all of the lines and definitely the majors.

I don't understand someone who goes on a cruise and wants to sit in their cabin watching a dvd. you can do that at home. or with your laptop on the plane or waiting at the airport . that is what I plan to do. but time on the ship is precious and over with way too quickly...

My wife and I have so much fun while cruising. All most too much fun. Sometimes we will take one day to spend relaxing in the room and on the balcony.

It's ALL part of the experience...
Run all day, party all night....retreat to the cabin and doze off to a good flick.
Man, that is a vacation!

hi, while i kinda agree, i even hate taking naps, hubby does but then again i work nights and have always felt that sleeping was a waste of time, i might miss somthing lol

however, i understand wanting a romantic night in your cabin, chilling watching a flick, getting room service to eat on the balcony. If your with your hubby and that time is just as important as anything else. but with 22 yrs under our belt, i'd probably skip the movie

I guess I should add that I like to sleep with the TV on.....and the shows on the closed circuit system are very lacking.
I can only look at the ship's bow in the dark for so long.

I have never seen a DVD player in a cruise cabin.

when I go on vacation, especially on a cruise, I want to only do things that I wouldn't normally do at home or that I couldn't do at home. While I agree, watching a movie with your significant other, etc. can be fun, leave that for when you're back home! I would do things that make this truly an escape from your normal life. Slow dance on deck in a secluded spot, in the evening, even if there's no music! Do a piano bar singalong together! Learn a new game in the casino together. I'm not dating anyone now (single mom) and when I go on my solo cruise in June, the only thing I will do that I do at home is watch CNN while I'm getting ready to leave my cabin in the morning. I only plan to be back in the cabin to use the bathroom, change clothes, or go to sleep.

debbyedoops,
To answer your original questions:
On NCL and HAL there are dvd players in the cabin.
There is a library with a vast amount of movies, shows, documentaries, etc. that you can check out at no charge.
There are a few movies available on the closed circuit system but nothing notable enough for me to recall.

At this time Carnival does not have DVD players in their staterooms. They do have a wide variety of semi-first run movies available for you to watch and they also have pay-per-view movies. A movie can be a great respite from all the activity.

Do what YOU want to do on your cruise. That's the great part about cruising!

Take care,
Mike

oh what is the info on the 45 day letter?
First... I don't recall being awake in my room long enough for a whole movie, but I do enjoy watching tv as I go to bed, or even when I wake up in the morning.... It's just something I enjoy and hey, if I'm waiting on the shower, I might as well be doing something I enjoy.

Next, about the 45 day letter.... this is what I know...
When you write to Carnival about your experience on your cruise good or bad, they will write you a letter that says, thank you for your comments and they appreciate you taking the time to write etc.
Then they give you a phone number to call within 45 days of your next cruise where they will offer you a gift to be waiting for you on your next cruise.
I have heard of most of the gifts being offered are the same as you would find in the bon voyage dept on carnival website, such as fruit basket, bottle of wine, drink coupons etc...
But I have also heard of people getting on board credit too.
If you go to the search and type in "45 day letter" you will find a long string on that topic...
I am now about 7 days away from making me call, I will be sure to let everyone know what they offered and what we decided on.

Default keep it coming

thanks all for your input

on my last cruise with mom and best friend to carribean 2005 on the maiden voyage of Grand Princess...my BF went to the beach and my mom and i went to breakfast then back to our cabin put our pjs on and watched The Notebook on tv. it was sooo nice to just really relax.

my mom is a spry 74 year old ( overweight-me too) but the bigness of the ship is sometimes hard on her. last cruise we were all the way to the back of the ship, this trip we are mid ship on Verrandah rm 8340. looks like a good area i hope so...close to elevators but not too close.

I did not remember the elevators on princess only going to certain floors...how can you tell this ahead of time?

love this board and love all the people, great advice and info...keep it coming

I think the only was you can tell about the elevators is by this board... hearing from CM's who have been on the ship.
I had those same concerns as I am overweight (but lost 27 lbs on Weight Watchers so far) and my knees are bad.
I like to print out the decks and plan my routes....
If you look there is a topic called "elevator question" I started because I wanted to know if the elevators went all the was through.
Hope this helps.....
